Takehiko Inoue’s “The First Slam Dunk” isn’t exactly the first movie ever made about a scrappy high school basketball team struggling to overcome their shared differences and personal demons in time for the big game against their undefeated rivals. It’s a tale as old as…

saltyhangFeb 1, 2023Unexpectedly, the movie centers of point guard Miyagi, who never really seemed like much of a focus of the series. But it makes sense; he's the guy who carries the ball down the court, and passes off to each other player. It feels like the narrative is doing the same,…

as someone currently missing the nba during its offseason, this was like water in the desert. i don't think i've ever been in a theater with as much sustained cheering as there was during this film. it really did feel like being at an actual basketball game. inoue really…
estherJul 29, 2023Godlike AKIRA-level adaption, that captures everything amazing about the manga, finds a fresh perspective on the material, and does it all with beautiful animation while giving every team member a moment to shine. Plus, it's filtered entirely through a character who mostly…

10/10 This was so good. I really wish there would have been more, or if it could have been a series since they skipped a few things but the movie was great. The use of cgi was perfect and looked really well done. I really liked how they emphasized the story of Ryota and his family. I wish I would…
Slam Dunk is one of my favorites animes and it deserved to have its final arc anímated and the animation of this last match was incredible. I liked Ryota’s story and that they gave him a new background to the character.

Guess it’s nostalgia, cause I loved seeing all these characters back again. The emotional touch to the story and excitement of the match really blended well together too
this movie was amazing, i finished the series i think in july but the movie wasn’t on any streaming services so i jumped on this asap and it did NOT disappoint. 9/10

I enjoyed it but the main character doesn't do enough as far as basketball skills go but that's a nitpick I enjoyed it for the most part
The movie was amazing!

I found myself wishing I could watch a real game directed by Inoue, with such careful attention to detail and an acute sense of drama.
Inoue’s film is not just an effective youth melodrama––much as it is that––but a fully sensory action film that deeply understands the raw appeal of its subject beyond wide-angle shots from the bleachers.
The First Slam Dunk is able to throw a relentless series of new gambits, twists, and reversals at the screen that will keep even seasoned sports film fans on the edge of their seat.
