Atom User Reviews for The Fire Inside
Claressa's story is so important for female and male urban youth to see. She's unconventional and has been through so much. She deserves so much more respect and attention from the world. Congratulations on her achievement and success!!!
It made me cry, it made me cheer. Inspiring true story.
Amazing movie! Must see!!!!
Incredible story that addresses many of the things women deal with. A must watch.
"The Fire Inside" revealed some of the stark (& at times dark) inequality realities people & communities faced without explicitly showing all of what Claressa "T-Rex" Shields faced from childhood without sugarcoating. Her perseverance and fierce familial ties make for a good learning experience.
It was a great story but it wasn’t a great portrayal. It was interesting but the main character wasn’t so awe inspiring. It could have been really good but not very moving. I did like it
Metacritic
Altogether, The Fire Inside is a strong directorial debut for Rachel Morrison, boasting excellent performances from Ryan Destiny and Brian Tyree Henry.
While it ticks all the expected boxes for a sports drama, it’s also something more.

Women’s sports owes a debt to Shields. She finally has a movie that gives her deserved flowers.
