don’t wanna overhype this modest little film, but it cleared my skin, did my taxes, solved Brexit, fixed the Oscars, got the Starbucks guy to stop running, convinced Weezer to retire, killed Mitch McConnell & made me really hungry. do wish they'd nix the very final…
davidehrlichJul 20, 2019Me laughing embarrassingly loud at a joke that took place in a graveyard is everything you need to know about this film. Lulu Wang is so good at writing conversations it’s not even funny. Nothing I say is gonna do this film justice, just please see it immediately.
KarstenJul 18, 2019“isn’t it wrong to lie?” family is so simplistically complex: grief, joy and despair are often all mixed together. this was so rhythmically calming, and i can’t remember the last time i’ve heard an audience burst into laughter and then stop on a dime to reflect. this is…

Nai Nai is a STAR. Give her a franchise.
Patrick WillemsJul 18, 2019Grandmothers are the best people on Earth. Science has proven it. But I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a movie that so beautifully captured the wonder of grandmas before. Seriously, if you have a grandma in your life, go give them a hug and thank them for being awesome.
Matt SingerJul 22, 2019what lady bird did for calling your mom, the farewell does for calling your grandmom while awkwafina really steps into her own here, it's zhao shuzhen who delivers my favorite on screen performance of the year. nai nai truly was my grandma for those 98…

this felt like a gut punch and a warm hug at the same time
rudiAug 1, 2019The world doesn’t have enough movies with poorly sung covers of Killing Me Softly
Taylor WilliamsAug 25, 2019“be good, my child” so genuine and caring that it feels like being hugged. i’m just gonna keep rewatching this until i have it memorized, i think

Wow! This movie got me! “It’s fear that kills them not the cancer itself” 6 years after, Nai Nai is still alive. Which goes to show that if they would have told her the diagnosis, Nai Nai would have wasted time worrying about it rather than enjoying her family get together.
Loved this. First time seeing a film where awkwafina isn’t completely obnoxious. She was actually pretty great in this, capturing the essence of missing the good parts of your childhood and confusion about why things changed perfectly. Granny was also too cute.

an incredibly touching film that anyone could find beautifully moving, even if they don’t directly relate. a great script and phenomenal casting make for an endearing and entertaining story alongside an amazing score and a uniquely fresh directorial style
I was worried it would be a boring movie, but the story did draw me in and made me care. Instantly loved Nai Nai and this retelling of a true story which had me questioning my values a bit (why I do the things I do).

This was a moving piece. It wasn’t very relatable for me but it was all very realistic, the feeling and emotions of the family members when returning to China to grant their grandmother’s last wish.
an incredibly beautiful movie that pulled at my heart strings. the story hit close to home, and was brought to life by the stunning cinematography, acting, and writing.

If you can get into a dialogue driven drama with many genuinely funny moments and a cast and writing that makes the family feel like family, this is a movie you will love.
HYHelen YangI don't cry easily but this definitely made me cry and laugh

It was pretty boring, I thought I was gonna feel some emotion while watching it, but I ultimately felt nothing. It had cheap humor, but nothing too special. Price for admission was also overpriced, not worth it. Very dissapointed
JGJoe GunawanAbsolutely love this film! Such a heartfelt movie and just full of emotions, wonderful cast, and beautiful cinematography ad music!
MPMichael ParkI was extremely moved and was so touched at the end of this film. All families can go see this movie. I loved it

It was good! I will watch again! It was slow in places and would have wanted more background on Billi. I need a book version. Ha
