so movie money sure isn't as brave as it used to be, huh? good god. this was put out (or not) by WARNER BROS! how timid and small-minded our commercial art has become. such gloriously righteous indignation, and Jarman's neo-futurist design still gives the madness a…

God isn’t real take ur clothes off
Blue GhostsOct 11, 2026Russell is a madman for his pitch perfect balance of extremes, the collision of flesh and faith. Insane movie for insane times (which is apparently all the time).

I love seeing The Devils re-enter the conversation, all the rapturous attention it’s getting. It deserves it. I think it’s a masterpiece, and certainly one of my faves. Vanessa Redgrave, Oliver Reed, Ken Russell, Derek Jarman — all at their peak. Gorgeous, essential…
carrieandtracyApr 19, 2014One of THE most excruciatingly difficult cinematic experiences out there. It probably wasn't beneficial for my mental health to watch this and Under the Skin in the same evening. I hated Vanessa Redgrave's character so much that I might honestly hate Vanessa Redgrave now,…

I think the greatest moment was in the last 20 minutes, showing the true evil being spread by fear and propaganda. Pretty slow burn, but a good watch. 7/10
Wagner Freitas likedThe Devils⚠️ "The devils is a harsh film, but it's a harsh subject. I wish the people who were horrified and appalled by it would've read the book, because the bare facts are far more horrible than anything in the film." —Ken Russell, who won Best Director for it at 33rd Venice Festival.
cas likedThe Devilsahead of its time with crazy performances and good story, but slow. i love a depraved story in the middle of this apocalypse of prudish losers. enjoy things even if they’re freaked out!!! or: i cackled when i saw that little f word with his bowl cut climb the ladder like that…

Nothing short of a masterpiece. Exquisite set design and breathtaking cinematography transform every frame into a work of art. The cast delivers captivating performances, immersing you in every moment. Its tragic yet achingly beautiful conclusion unfolds like a living poem.
Neo likedThe DevilsFunny, odd, and, according to my friend who know better than I, historically accurate. I saw this in 2026 in theaters. Enjoyed it. Laughed, averted my eyes at the gruesome parts, and learned again about how history continues to repeat itself. It’s campy in retrospect; fun!
Vogue Italia lovedThe Devils10/23/26: I got to see it in the theater again :D everyone please go watch this movie while you can, it is a nervous system reset! I’m a little annoyed people keep marketing it as a horror film though, it’s not so much horror as it is a horrific drama. Please see ittttt!!

The restoration and release of this director's cut is really a beautiful film. The themes are familiar but the cinematography and production designs are absolutely beautiful, the lead performances are great, the content is shocking.
Bonnie likedThe DevilsSuch a unique watch, especially knowing how poorly it was received in 1971. Delirious imagery and narrative that put me in a trance. Its treatment of religion as a weapon feels still relevant to this day. 8
Morgan likedThe DevilsHonestly made me angry by the end. A beautiful and very provoking movie. Go into it without knowing anything, and keep your mind open!!!
