The colors in the background were done extremely well to show off the settings and feelings of the characters, especially the red within the restaurant to show off the owners anger and fualts.
Wagner Freitas lovedThe Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her LoverCannot even believe what I have just witnessed, a complete masterclass on the use of colors to tell a story, a story about freedom, a love story that started at their most intimate point through common interests working it's way back to the beginning, absolutely marvelous!!
Rachie lovedThe Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her LoverInsane use of color, beautiful set design and incredible costumes by jean paul gaultier. There is lots of symbolism and so many layered dynamics going on. Absolutely fantastic… pay attention or you might miss the whole point

The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover is not an easy film to sit through. It doesn't simply make a show of being uncompromising -- it is uncompromised in every single shot from beginning to end. Why is it so extreme? Because it is a film made in rage, and rage cannot be modulated.

Mr. Greenaway turns this tale of a bullying criminal and his unfaithful wife into something profound and extremely rare: a work so intelligent and powerful that it evokes our best emotions and least civil impulses, so esthetically brilliant that it expands the boundaries of film itself.
