lanyDec 7, 2015Five stars? Yeah, five stars. Call me Standard & Poor's because I'm just tossing out AAA ratings. A (frequently hilarious) crime movie where the American economy is the corpse, the entire financial system is the culprit, and the detectives all have bets on the body…

i wonder if margot robbie's back hurts from carrying this entire movie
AnnaApr 14, 2019First you think: "Okay, this movie is a comedy." Then you think: "Okay, it's a dramedy." Then you think: "It's actually a horror story." Gotta be honest. I didn't understand half of the dialogue but I'm pretty sure they said something important.

Jules O is "meh" onThe Big Shortmen in buildings.
Daria lovedThe Big Shortit’s not only funny and explains the economics behind the 2008 crash in a understandable way but is also still very relevant. loved the acting and casting, spot on and the editing is really good

It takes satirical legends like Adam McKay to expose and educate all while being poetically and refreshingly entertaining. The heart of capitalism is an obfuscated maze, but the workaround trying to explain without being completely condescending was incredible. From using distinctive faces to jokes…

Darrin likedThe Big ShortAmazing cast! It’s a bit hard for me to envision Steve Carell in serious roles but he knocked it out the park.

Noah Schnapp lovedThe Big ShortLiterally amazing. So informative. Steve Carell crushed it. So did Christian bale. I cannot believe this was a true story. Makes me wanna learn more about it. I can’t believe dad worked at Lehman brothers which crashed w bear stearns. I wonder what it was like for dad to work2008
Max Valentijn likedThe Big ShortA great semi-mocumentary, fourth wall breaking, movie about the tragedy that was the housing market crash. Showing the corruption behind the system, and the men that found out and predicted the system’s collapse. Awesome cast, but some weird editing & music choices made. 7.8/10 🏦
MRSU1C1DESQD likedThe Big ShortThe directorial style of this was interesting, now something I expected to see from Adam McKay. The jargon in this was heavy no matter how Margot Robbie dumbed it down. I think you’d quickly get lost even if you do understand all the stock terminology. This movie is fast paced.

It’s impossible to fathom how writer-director Adam McKay has turned this material into one of the funniest and yet most sobering, not to mention one of the most entertaining movies of 2015.

A true crime story and a madcap comedy, a heist movie and a scalding polemic, The Big Short will affirm your deepest cynicism about Wall Street while simultaneously restoring your faith in Hollywood.

Only in America, though, could filmmakers illuminate such a dire subject, and the financial debacle that ensued, with the sort of scathing wit, joyous irreverence and brilliant boisterousness that make The Big Short an improbable triumph.
