The second this movie starts it's already too late. Every moment seems off, wrong, dreadful. Scenes hazily slide into each other and even the spaces between spaces break down. Hell is a steady leak. Doom is slow but inexorable. Forgive the anachronistic comparison, but…
matt lynchJul 14, 2012A short report of me watching the Beyond: Cool, opening gore, that's always good! YES! A house built on one of the gateways to hell! This can only get better! Why am I listening to seventies porn music all of a sudden? Cool, some gore. What's up with the…
DirkHSep 22, 2020This movie is simply obsessed with squishing people’s eyeballs out of their heads like a Panic Pete stress toy. Lucio Fulci was horrified by the human body, which he depicts here as a wet, mostly hollow container of tendons made of chewing gum and packed with almost magenta…

“every ten minutes, someone’s face should be melting” is a great screenplay rule
David SimsOct 1, 2019"I'm a doctor, I won't accept irrational explanations." The pinnacle of medical student turned splatter painter Lucio Fulci, who here manages to fit his love of Buñuel surrealism (the original eye torturer), Lovecraftian cosmic horror (keep your eyes peeled for the Book…
Josh LewisOct 12, 2021Hard to pick the best part of this movie between: guy gets face eaten by tarantulas, seeing eye dog rips out blind woman's throat, or girl who looks like the Wendy from Wendy's getting her head fully exploded like a pumpkin. Gore masterclass here. This Fulci guy sure had a…

Capolavoro dé Ciao Fruscio❤️
JackFollaSep 10, 2021There is no fire, there is no brimstone. It is not tangible and it is not a place. Hell is a mystic infection, left benign behind a gate of clay. A crude mausoleum of black magic marked only with the symbol of Eibon and containing the swirling pulse of an evil purity…
ELECTRICWIZARDxOct 11, 2023Widely criticized for being narratively incoherent, which I don’t necessarily disagree with, but Fulci’s exploration of literal hell cares less that the dialogue is clumsy and more about drowning you in dread and despair— to which he is very successful in doing. The…

Tarantula scene was BEYOND unnecessary
CvptvinHowdy is "meh" onThe BeyondI probably just didn't get it. I feel like there's no pacing, and most scenes are random. I can't complain about practical effects because that was great in that department.
Nathaniel Lutz likedThe BeyondWhat heck did I just watch? And why did I like it so much? The practical effects and gore were some of the best I’ve seen. The story takes some thinking about it.

surrealist nightmare masterpiece. little explanation. (sometimes, no explanation is needed) absolutely gorgeous story.
Ed Harris is "meh" onThe BeyondFilm itself is not the best in my opinion but the visual effects are really fun and definitely the best bit
Hasvik likedThe BeyondI love me these cosmic vibes and the music is killer.

Does it make any sense? Nope. Does this detract from the film? Not at all. It's classic Italian Grand Guignol at its most disturbing; a car crash, autopsy, and disembowelment all wrapped up in a nice, soggy package.
Marc Savlov
Austin Chronicle
It's the kind of movie that alternates stupefyingly lame dialogue with special effects scenes in which quicklime dissolves corpses and tarantulas eat lips and eyeballs.
Roger Ebert
Chicago Sun-Times
The thriller is populated by the usual dimwits who stumble into horrific situations and don't have the good sense to leave, and it tries to pass off some of the sorriest excuses for zombies ever seen.
