A sports movie for the rest of us. A kids movie for real kids that are awful in the way that real kids are awful. Unapologetic, hilarious, and somehow sweet beyond description behind its vulgar exterior, never cloying or false in the way so many of its imitators are.

chxorlieAug 7, 2021“The Bad News Bears” makes it seem like the absolute peak of cool…. to be deeply, committedly uncool. Based on screenwriter Bill Lancaster’s childhood experience with his legendary father, Burt Lancaster - “Bears” rejects its winning lineage and makes itself instead into…

"a stretcher for his balls?" my first favorite movie. i hadn't seen it since i was a teenager, but somehow it is better than i had remembered. the quintessential "lazy afternoon in the valley with a bucket of miller lite tall cans or some weed" film, youth baseball is…
eddieDec 30, 2025A grumpy and drunken minor leaguer (Walter Matthau) reluctantly decides to coach a group of highly dysfunctional little league misfits. This is a stone cold 70’s classic comedy. They literally don’t make them like this anymore. Not only is it occasionally offensive, but…
David WhitmanAug 8, 2020It's hard to argue with the film's iron-clad thesis: yelling at kids works.

My favorite part is in the first game, when the Bears are just getting mauled by Vic Morrow’s jerkface Yankees. None of the Bears can hit, catch, or even throw, and it’s about 20-0. A Yankee is running towards second base, part of the procession towards a four touchdown…
DallasFranceNov 9, 2014It has been said that the most important subject of the cinema is the human face, and I'm not sure if that was ever more true than in The Bad News Bears. Walter Matthau's face does the work of a dozen or so overpaid screenwriters, and saves us in the audience from a bunch…
JoeAug 3, 2024Rewatch I'm hard pressed to think of a comedy that I find funnier than this one. It's raunchy, offensive, perceptive, and above all else, it's about something. There is actual heart to this picture. I love everything about it, seen it at least a dozen times, and it will…

Aside from the racism and some questionable themes, this movie is pretty good. The kids are out of hand for sure and it pretty much embodies what little league is. The cast is excellent too!
8.2/10. lord for a pg movie. oh how the times changed. The story, the comedy, the meaning was all there

Hilarious movie that gets better with age. Walter Matthau was the perfect guy to cast
One of the best movies I’ve watched. I watch this every summer at least twice.
