Moviegoers are saying

This documentary about Robert Bateman and Bristol Foster's 1950s global adventure in a Land Rover called the Grizzly Torque divides audiences between those charmed by its archival footage and those frustrated by its structural choices. While the stunning vintage travel footage and restoration storyline provide genuine emotional moments, many viewers feel the film rushes through fascinating material and sanitizes the rougher edges of its subjects' stories.

Aimiable, but not overly authoritative, feeling overstuffed at less than an hour and a half, and taking as its main structure (after a quick introduction to the principles) a global trip in a landrover that Robert Bateman and Bristol Foster take in the 1950s that was sort…

Charming, if a bit toothless. But then again, Bristol Foster actively called for the extermination of mankind to save the natural world, so maybe my standards for toothfulness are too high. The archival footage is where this film excels. Certain moments really sing.

Dreams of your goodbye. The way things are now, a change in the wind and it's like nothing had ever happened, you'll go your way, and I'll find mine. If that's how it is, fine. Happy to give you what you want. Led off above while I sink below. I heard it in your voice that…

The archival footage is the star for me. I think many of the shots of animals are just extremely cool, and various if the adventuring bits are good fun. I have some mixed feelings about the rest. I think tying the adventure to the rest of their lives is interesting, and may…

A neat travelogue that only lasts about half the runtime, and then can't decide how to use the last 40 minutes. They went to 19 countries! I'm sure there are more stories. Was none of the other footage usable? It's a light crowd-pleaser that scratches the surface of some…

i hope the art of adventure never dies, even as the environment and culture changes around us (i, in fact, had a bit of an adventure trying to get this screening!). i hope people's love of art and film and drawing never dies. I really hope that the beautiful animals around…

I think this movie is a little structurally unsound with the travelogue section being so short and fastly paced just so the viewer can get to the (incredible) career highlights of Bristol and Bateman. Surely there was more than 40 minutes of stories out of 19 countries and…
