Moviegoers are saying
Jane Schoenbrun's latest is a polarizing meta-horror experience that reimagines slasher films through a queer, psychological lens - think 'Psycho from the perspective of the shower curtain.' While some viewers praise its ambitious blend of horror commentary and sexual awakening narrative, others find it confusing and overly cerebral, with many noting it explores how childhood horror films impact adult sexuality.

In this surreal examination of both the slasher genre and the roots of human sexual desire, Jane Schoenbrun asks the question: how far would you go to bust the perfect nut?

victoriaAug 11, 2026Enjoyed this overall, but a bit more in theory than in practice. In part because I think it’s having 3 or 4 different comically meta but genuinely academic conversations with itself about the slasher genre at any given moment (its upsetting history of misogyny/transphobia,…

Was that a movie about how horror movies watched as children screws up your ability to have an orgasm?
JMJill MillerI had low expectations for this film and yet was somehow still let down. The opening credit sequence was awesome and built a great backstory for a movie, and when I saw it starred Gillian Anderson I was hopeful. But those hopes were soon dashed. This is a bad movie about a…

Lavish with cultural references and fresh imagination, Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma is a revelry of comedy, murder, intellectualism, sexual awakening, queerness, and more.

Jane Schoenbrun unveils a very enjoyable display of transformative ecstasy and submissive rapture, treating us to a bizarre pop-cultural black mass of fiercely believed-in trash and kink.

Overall, this is their most conventional film yet, and it further cements Schoebrun as one of the pre-eminent queer filmmakers of today, one who continues to bring clear vision and nuance to themes of identity, sex, and selfhood.
