40 years after it's release, Christopher Reeve remains the best Superman portrayal ever.

The executives at Warner Brothers should watch this movie the next time they want to make a DC comics movie. It all starts with the cast and the chemistry between the cast; Reeve and Kidder were awesome opposite each other. It's too bad they never made any other movies together; they were both outstanding actors. The story, editing, screenplay are all great and this movie is just a lot of fun. It makes you want to go to the movies!!!

The movie was excellent and I loved seeing it on the big screen again. However, the promised rare animated short was not shown. No one working in the theater had any answers for us. Very disappointing.

A great memory...

Christopher Reeve will always be the definitive Superman; handsome, polite, chivalrous, and optimistic. They can reboot the Man of Steel as much as they want but they will never make a better Superman than this one.

Fairly disappointed with the cut of the film that Fathom elected to show in theaters. No extra cuts or extended scenes. I was really hoping to see them all included in one film. Plus, this cut had the missing music from the Superman saves the day montage near the San Andreas fault. Just nat sound that made the sequence seem so bland. Plus the audio was clearly not stereo surround sound to begin with. So the overall audio volume and quality was poor. Not to mention the film quality had some color issues and looked worn. While it was nice to see this again on the big screen 40 years later, my basic DVD copy at home was still better quality. Not worth the money fans.

John Williams's music was incredible. What a treat to hear this on the big screen again. Chris Reeve is, of course, the perfect man of steel. There's never been a better Superman.

It IS the BEST Superman ever!

Unbelievable!!! Superman the Movie is my favorite movie of all time!! This was my only chance to see it on the big screen! It was not disappointing in the least!

The movie has aged very well, being 40-years-old. It's sad we have lost most of the cast now.

I saw this the first time in a theater in 1978. It’s still a wonderful trip down memory lane to a simpler time when our heros stood for Truth, Justice, and the American way!

After forty years this film still remains as the best representation of Superman. From John Williams memorable score to Christopher Reeve's charismatic performance, all amazing! The movie that started a genre that is still going strong today!

Have always loved this movie; it gets Superman (the man and the mythos) right. Incredible cast, great cinematography. Most of the special effects hold up quite well but even the less great ones (by today's standards) don't matter because the overall feel of the movie is great. Reeve and Kidder are considered by many to be the best portrayals of these characters for a reason. The animated short shown before was great because it showed some iconic Superman lore (like the changing in the phone booth) which is referenced in the movie (and the animation was great).

Amazing movie. Downside is a “fan” sat next to me, opened his phone to check it during opening credits, then proceeded to talk, comment and say characters lines before they did for the ENTIRE movie. My experience was ruined. But that’s Nyc theaters for you....

Christopher Reeves will always be the one and only Superman. What an iconic performance!

it's too bad chris and margot aren't still with us because they will always be clark and lois to many. i wish this version showed the cut scenes and was remastered. as it is, this might be the same exact filmstrip that was shown 40 years ago. some of the superpowers still hold up (and some don't) but reeves' charisma will be forever missed.

The theater did not show the Animated short, which was dissapointing. I was also hoping for the extended cut to be shown. rather than slight variation of the original theatrical.

Just as magical and entertaining as it was the first time I saw it! Nothing like seeing the man of steel fly with Lois Lane on the BIG screen! My little boy loved it too!

Although I agree with some of the criticisms posted already, this is the superhero movie that started it all! And Christopher Reeve is the one, the only true Superman for all time!!

Loved it 40 years ago and still love it! Superman will always be my favorite superhero and Christopher Reeve will always be the best Superman ever! Theatre sucked but the movie was once again amazing!

This was the superman of my childhood, and I loved seeing this movie again.

Great seeing it in a theater again! Nice touch to add the 1940s cartoon at the beginning. Unfortunately, the aspect ratio was wrong on the 'toon, cutting off the top and bottom of the picture.

Nostalgic!

I wish more of our current movies could be made with these former themes of good for others and our country we saw frequently in movies of years past.

Not sure why we're rating the movie itself. Been out 40 years; it's outstanding. I'd rather have been asked how the experience was (rating the theatre where it was shown) since that what was sold. Have the movie on Blu-ray, digital; went to the theatre for the experience. And the theatre experience was not good. Sound started without picture and I had to leave my seat to have it fixed, so we missed previews as well as introduction. Then my wife had to leave her seat since the lights didn't dim after picture was fixed. Experience overall: 'thanks for the cash grab, we don't give a crap about your experience.' 5 stars for film; 2.5 stars for experience.

I Don't know what people are talking about. The audio and picture were very good at the theater I was at. Not HD, but what do you expect in a 40 year old movie. Great to see on the big screen again. Chris Reeve is the best Superman of all time.

This experience was awful. Bad sound awful picture. Was like watching it on vhs. Additionally, the picture was minimized?it didn't take up the whole screen. I went to see it on a big screen and watch it digitally remastered or something. No bueno. Hope no one heard me snoring.

A reminder of a time when comic book movies were fun without being dark or conflicted

Christopher Reeves will always be Superman!! Though the movie has plotholes you could fly Krypto through, this movie stands the test of time. Action, drama, humor and special effects that are good, even by today's standards with a good story make this, andi its sequel, the best Superman movie, for now. The time travel ending didn't work. Gene Hackman will always be the best Lex Luthor.

It doesn’t get better than this. Amazing script, cast, score, etc. So we’ll delivered and beautifully shot. This IS Superman.

As always " Super " !!

1. The theater I viewed the film was not in 4k (as I'm guessing most theaters showing it ), but it was also a cut with NO remastering whatsoever. The picture and color was blurry and unclear throughout the film as if it was the original 1978 version with no improvements. Absolutely unacceptable given the multiple HD remasterings that have been done over the past 10 plus years for this film. 2. None of the extend scenes were included in this viewing. Also not acceptable (especially the scenes of Superman searching for Luthor's layer.) It was great seeing Christopher Reeve on the big screen but I was more disappointed than excited and satisfied after this showing. Whoever is responsible--do better. Be better.

This Superman alludes explicitly to its origins in the Depression-era comics, and Clark has a quaint 30s habit of using the phrase “Swell!” from his boyhood. Maybe now this movie looks quaint in the same way. But there’s still a surge of adventure and fun.
