No one will ever sneak a film of this size through the studio system ever again.
Griffin NewmanMar 4, 2017Starship Troopers is quite possibly the most brilliant movie disguised as a dumb movie ever made.
George Hanna-WilsonJan 15, 2017"This year we explored the failure of democracy, where the social scientists brought our world to the brink of chaos. We talked about the veterans, how they took control & imposed the stability which has lasted for generations since.." Verhoeven actually has precious…

Goes so far out of its way to identify itself that it's almost impossible to understand how badly misread it was on release. Possibly the Verhoeven Rosetta Stone, not least because the Mad Dutchman was never afraid to show you how spectacular and seductive violence can be.
matt lynchFeb 7, 2014François Truffaut once said, “It is impossible to make a true anti-war film, because the act of looking at violence is inherently exciting”. Robert A. Heinlein wrote, “Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor”. Paul Verhoeven’s…

to be fair, you have to have a very high iq to understand starship troopers
adamboltMar 11, 202187 Service guarantees citizenship. Brilliant as a satire and a bug-gore slaughter fest, yes, but how it balances the fascist conventions of the source material and the necessities of the audiences' bloodlust still knocks me flat.
SilentDawnAug 17, 2021Arguably the best film ever made about Israel.

Top shelf 90s classic. A lot of tongue in cheek set ups to poke fun at and point out the absurdity of celebrating war, the military industrial complex and propaganda if you’re keen to find them. 9/10 for me.
i feel like it could’ve been 30 minutes shorter but maybe that’s just because i watched it when i was exhausted

I’m not even going to lie, I thought this movie was insanely good. Ignore how cheesy the CGI looks, it’s an old movie so u can’t expect the best, but it’s action packed, gory ride holds up as a smashing science fiction masterpiece that’ll be known about for years to come. 10/10!!
A pretty good satirical romp that provides some chuckles. The propaganda ads were great, and themes of media influence & the futility of war are striking. It drags a bit at time, & the various love triangles can get a bit nauseating, but maybe that's all part of the satire.
such a good anti war and anti US film. clearly portrays the main characters as morally wrong to invade and kill the “bugs”, while keeping many humorous moments with ridiculous cgi and fight scenes. shows relationships in groups very well. ridiculous at many points

It's exactly like Star Wars -- if you subtract a good story, sympathetic characters, intelligence, wit and moral purpose.
Faithfully represents Heinlein's militarism, his Big Brother state, and a value system in which the highest good is to kill a friend before the Bugs can eat him. The underlying ideas are the most interesting aspect of the film.
Paul Verhoeven's movie takes more action than ideas from Robert A. Heinlein's 1959 novel, which is just as well, considering the book's goofy suggestion that military veterans should control society from top to bottom.
