Atom User Reviews for Star Trek: The Motion Picture - The Director's Edition
The fx enhanced the story, simply beautiful.
The Director’s Edition in 4K is truly the definitive version of Robert Wise’s film. In a time where Star Trek has become more and more shoot ‘em up bang bang, this movie is truly refreshing, with amazing visuals, the GOAT score by Jerry Goldsmith, and asks some interesting questions along the way. If you like to think while watching a movie. This a great one to see. And it was absolutely beautiful on the big screen. Salute to Fathom Events and Atom tickets for working with Paramount to put this movie back on the big screen in all of its glory. Wonderful experience.
This is true Trek! Not the best Star Trek movie ever, but definitely underrated. It’s so much better than any modern Trek made since 2009.
Picture quality was great - bright and sharp, colors looked good. Great new CGI effects.
Excellent presentation of the source material. Was very nice to see it cleaned up and restored.
It was just a fun experience watching one of my favorite shows on the big screen.
Beautiful film. Well paced. Nothing compares to seeing it on the big screen. Went with another couple and everyone was impressed with how good the film was.
Visually beautiful edition. The movie USS Enterprise is truly a thing of beauty. Loved Jerry Goldsmith's soundtrack.
They could have started the movie on time. Great experience otherwise!!
felt like I was watching a rerun 🥱
Seeing a remastered version of this movie on the big screen, after all these years, feels both familiar and new. It looked beautiful, and the sound was stunning! If I could see it again in the theater, I would!
Great seeing the new FX! Definitely worth the money!
Finally finished the way Robert Wise wanted in 1979
I really loved how they tweaked a few things and made it better. The sound was excellent. Overall a great experience.
Loved seeing this on the big screen
the digital remastery of the cgi was impressive and the commentary on the models and special effects was interesting. seeing it on the big screen was cool.
Great movie, and re-mastering. Sadly it was 4/5 due to the theater doing a poor job with the movie. Didn't turn the house lights all the way off, so it was like watching in my living room, and there were some A/V sync issues with the dialog. Both of these pulled me out of the movie more than it should have.
Great fun to see old friends again with some old friends!
I last saw this movie in the theaters 43 years ago. When the titles appeared on screen, I was just as excite as I was back then. It's not a fast-paced action movie, but it's beautifully shot and a pleasure to watch.
An extremely underrated film. Not action packed but more of a cerebral slow paced 2001 a space odyssey style pure sci fi flick.
Nice to see this movie again in theaters. The improved sfx were nice. They did overdo it in some places with the background atmosphere on the ship (beeps, button presses, etc.), and the removed some of the "flavor" dialogue from the original for some reason. Overall, was worth seeing this movie again.
Metacritic
It’s a bit overextended but very watchable with flourishes of exotic invention.
Star Trek is, finally, nothing but a long day's journey into ennui.
This 1979 movie adaptation of the cult TV series is blandness raised to an epic scale. Robert Wise's bloodless direction drains all the air from the Enterprise.
