Moviegoers are saying
Reviewers can't stop talking about Chihiro's transformation, from a girl who hunches and looks to others for safety to one whose "voice is strong and clear." The rice-ball crying scene catches people off guard, and the feeling of being lost in a strange place as a child comes up again and again. Nearly everyone is charmed, and one viewer is willing to call it "maybe definitely the best animated film of all time."

USER SCORE (2039)
Universal acclaim based on 2039 Reviews
Spirited Away is fast and funny; it's weird and wonderful. Mostly wonderful.
Peter Bradshaw
The Guardian
Visually imaginative, thematically instructive and thoroughly delightful, it takes us on a roller-coaster ride from innocence to experience without even a hint of that typical kiddie-flick sentimentality.
Jay Boyar
Orlando Sentinel
Miyazaki's films never stop at their brilliant surfaces. Spirited Away is a fairy tale in the classic tradition, a growing-up fantasy riding the rapids of the subconscious.
