happy birthday dad, i miss you. to quote mike loftus, “a woman wrote slap shot and you wouldn’t expect that but that means you should try and watch it jamie.”
jamie loftusJan 2, 2021Paul Newman may be the star and the Hanson’s the cult favorite but the MVP is Newman’s coat
Justin LaLibertyAug 8, 2021Paul Newman’s personal favorite of his own movies is the one where he gets to say p***y a dozen times and c**k a half dozen more. Truly, an icon. “Slap Shot” stars Newman as the player-coach of a failing hockey team in a dying steel town. In an effort to drum up…

Naomi✮Filthy and crude and often very funny(?). Inexcusable homophobia and sexism galore, as others have mentioned. Killer soundtrack. Paul Newman's character is ever bewildered and exasperated, while Paul Newman himself seems to be having a hell of a good time, which is always…

This movie confuses me in so many ways. Im not really sure what the primary story is. Im also not sure if it’s the most homophobic movie ever made or the greatest satire of the close-mindedness of sports? 🤷🏻♂️ All I know is I laughed out loud and Newman is always…
Ian CurranMar 23, 2023So here is a classic joke in Canada "I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out" So it's well established that violence has always been a contentious nature to the game and I'm not going to contest that but this movie plays off this contrivance and really in a…
pirateneckbeardNov 22, 2022Slap Shot is a tragedy, albeit one clad in the trappings of a raunchy sports comedy. Yes, it offers a happy ending of sorts, but the fact remains that the town in which it is set is now without its biggest employer, which has left 10,000 people jobless, and many locals…

Very violent without much resolution. If it was going to be about hockey I wish they’d have focused more on the gameplay.
TheKillingJoke lovedSlap ShotSuch a fun movie. All over the place in the best way. A feel good movie. Funny and exciting.

Watched on Blu-ray. Heard it was amazing. It is a snapshot of history. Steel mill supporting a city closes. The amateur hockey team no longer can be sustained. It felt like watching the end of an era. Of this way of life. And of Paul Newman’s character. Some jokes didn’t age.
Julie Dolinsky lovedSlap ShotMy first introduction to Paul Newman. This is a classic and raunchy sports comedy. It’s arguably one of the funniest sports comedy movies ever made. The Hanson Brothers are iconic. Don’t waste your time with the second or third movies. Nothing competes with the original. 🏒🥅
John Ressler is "meh" onSlap ShotI actually didn’t enjoy this hockey movie. “Goon” is a dumb movie but I enjoyed it. There other hockey movies I would rather watch. Mystery, Alaska is hidden one.

I revisit this movie every couple of years and it always holds up. One of the best sports movies ever and ahead of its time in a lot of ways.
Aaron Hajduk lovedSlap ShotA classic for a reason. Great sports comedy. Paul Newman is great, but the Hanson Bros are iconic.
Mickerdoo lovedSlap ShotPretty hilarious hockey flick. Paul Newman is the man. The Hanson Brothers are an awesome trio.

Slap Shot comes at you like a boisterous drunk. At first glance it appears harmlessly funny, in an extravagantly foul-mouthed sort of way. However, there's a mean streak beneath the cartoon surface tha makes one feel uneasy about humoring this particular durnk for too long.
