Hitchcock highlights one of the scariest things imaginable: a weird uncle
brendan o'hareAug 18, 2015or: Dracula Untold If most vampire stories are about the paranoia of the other, fear of a strange man from the East who charms the pants off your wife and sucks the blood from her veins, this is about the vampire we know, the favorite uncle who turns out to be a monster.…

Alfred Hitchcock gets away with the perfect murder in “Shadow of a Doubt;” the killing of small town optimism - right under America’s nose. While propaganda efforts on both sides of the Atlantic ocean mythologised the idea of the homestead in the midst of the Second World…
theriverjordanOct 18, 2022i love the two guys who are too busy having seinfeld esque converasations about how they would hypothetically murder each other to realize the borderline incest situation going on between Charlie and her uncle who is also named Charlie. one of the most fun Hitchcocks for…
DanteJul 14, 2015This works best as a metaphor of the unraveling of childhood naivete. When Uncle Charlie is revealed to be, not a hero, or a twin, to the heroine of the film (also named Charlie), but a villain it unseats expectations she has had her entire life. The reveal is torturous,…

yes this is a dark and sinister masterpiece and joseph cotten is the creepiest of all misogynistic creeps in this, but i cannot stop laughing about hume cronyn shuffling in while the family is having dinner and patricia collinge whispers “ugh, he ALWAYS comes by while we’re…

Branson ReeseFeb 6, 201896 A nightmare slumber. Frequently acidic and purvy, Hitch's energy is primarily found in cross-talk and the hidden messages of lying with a straight face, all while the camera dances like ballet.

I hate knocking down this half a star because I remember loving it on first watch. It's still an amazing film and beautifully shot. Alfred Hitchcock is the original master of suspense. It just didn't pack that same punch I remember, but what I do remember is liking Teresa Wright.
Very fleshed out villain in Charles and a very interesting moral dilemma Charlie is placed under, however there is too much emphasis placed on the cultural understanding for the Merry Widower Waltz for the story to make great sense in today’s Day in age. It’s use seems odd
I really enjoyed this film, as Hitchcock can really create suspense, especially during the finale. The shots of the uncle’s plotting really stood out to me. My only qualm is how close the relationship between niece and uncle; perhaps I simply am not as close with mine

Ridiculously good. Direction is flawless, script/story is enthralling and the performances are phenomenal. It’s shot excellently and each frame is just gorgeous. Paced expertly and demonstrates some of Hitchcock’s earlier bangers. One of the best thrillers ever made
A treat from Hitchcock so horrifically enjoyable that you sometimes forgot how horrifically tragic the main plot is. Every last character oozes with personality, much thanks to the film's great writing and consistently perfect casting.
