this movie would be good if there was no dialogue or storyline

Rebecca BulnesMay 12, 2020the bee gees were right when they said ‘you should be dancing’ because on no account should any of these characters be allowed to TALK

at any point in this movie it could have turned out that john travolta’s character was a serial killer and I would not have been the least bit surprised.

I liked the bit with the dancing.
🇵🇱 Steve G 🐝Feb 8, 2015This is a bad movie. A vain dumb guy who is a racist, homophobic, misogynist tries to figure himself out with the help of poorly written characters and a plot that is all over the place.
Ryan StuckeyAug 17, 2021Bridges are an obvious repeated symbol in the film, representing how Tony’s dreams are so close and yet so far. But I had forgotten the conversation between Tony and Stephanie while they sit and look at the Verrazano Bridge, and how Tony fixates on the story of a…

Misogyny, racism, and a surprise gang rape scene at the end that is extraordinary disturbing… especially when you factor in the fact that the movie implies it’s HER fault. Yuck.
Saturday Night Fever is wonderfully honest and completely accurate when it comes to depicting that stagnant environment that keeps young people like Tony pinned down.
Amazing soundtrack and the dance scenes were awesome, but other than that I really didn’t enjoy this movie. All the characters start to get less enjoyable as the film goes on and you’re really left rooting for no one at the end of the film. I do not see myself watching this again

if john travolta has one million haters, i’m one of them. if john travolta has one hater, it’s me. if john travolta has zero haters, i’m dead. if the world is against john travolta, i am with the world. if the world is for john travolta, i am against the world.
This was good but pretty off-putting for me because I went in expecting a fun, lighthearted dance movie that the 70s and 80s did so well and it ended up being pretty depressing. It had some dancing, but mostly focused on really heavy topics

aside from how good john travolta looks in his suits, the dance scenes, and OF COURSE the soundtrack- there really isn’t much else that’s enjoyable.
I was actually pleasantly surprised by this movie. I knew it was a “dance” movie but it had a lot of different things going on that I think worked. At times it can be slow and almost no dialogue making it a tad boring but never dull. This movie is very easy-going and cute. 7.5/10

One minute into Saturday Night Fever you know this picture is onto something, that it knows what it's talking about. [15 Oct 1999, Siskel Years, p.6]
