The Merry Wives of Windsor gets a modern makeover, courtesy of the Royal Shakespeare Company. In this performance, David Troughton plays a down-on-his-luck John Falstaff, looking for love in all the wrong places. Well, “love” is a strong term. “Financial comfort through seducing married women” would be more accurate. And he’s found two likely targets in the suburbs. Too bad they are wise to his schemes… Jealousy, rivalry, lies, confusion and clashing egos make for a comical romp – one that just might end in love after all. Though probably not for poor Falstaff.
