I am not American. I really dislike boxing. I generally speaking loathe melo-drama. I respect Stallone, but when he 'acts' he looks like a St. Bernard's dog trying to convey emotions. I am not a fan of sports films. I have every reason to hate this film. But…

went into this fully expecting it to be another Angry Man™ movie but rocky is just so...soft? his turtles?? his fishy?? his doggo?? please protect this man who absolutely does not need protection by any means

watched this in class today. it’s like 10% boxing which was kinda hilarious to me but it was very good.

After years of unintentionally avoiding this movie, I finally sat down and watched it. Many times I have watched an “all time classic” movie and been a little disappointed, but this simply wasn’t that case. Amazing movie! 9/10

Rocky is one of my favorite movies of all time. Not only is the music & score as memorable and badass as everyone talks about but the story itself is absolutely remarkable. It’s a great example of the perfect “underdog story” . 100% deserved the Oscar, and I am glad it won 🏆
Crimsonen likedRockyA great movie. The acting is good, and it does indeed feel very real. I actually really liked the love story between Rocky and Adrian too. But it does feel slow at times, and could have been shorter. Oh and also, the soundtrack is awesome. 8/10 movie.

It’s a character study of an original character, with a story that’s connects us to that character throughout and inspires us with a sense of personal victory.

Such a great slow burn that just gets you going. Best feel-good movies. There are so many small moments, details and practices in this movie that make it incredible. The grainy visuals are perfect, most shots look like paintings. I do dig the 2nd more, but this movie is great

The problem, I think, comes back to Mr. Stallone. Throughout the movie we are asked to believe that his Rocky is compassionate, interesting, even heroic, though the character we see is simply an unconvincing actor imitating a lug.

The story is achingly familiar, and though Stallone has a certain power, he is certainly not the subtlest actor to crawl out from under Marlon's overcoat. But the picture goes most wrong in the conceit it employs to lift Rocky out of the clubs and into the big arena for his title challenge.
