ElBuenCharlieFeb 8, 2023Though it follows a pretty standard inspirational teacher drama template, Eugenio Derbez’s performance has enough charisma and charm to transform the overly familiar plot into a heartwarming crowd pleaser. Winner of the Festival Favorite Award at the 2023 Sundance and…

Sergio Muñoz EsquerMar 24, 2025I've been meaning to watch this after seeing so many people praising it, and I'm a big fan of classroom dramas and lowkey a fan of Derbez, so this delivered on all fronts. The performances are all really great; the writing and director Christopher Zalla do a great job of…

Eugenio Derbez delivers a complex performance of a nonconventional, but determined teacher who cares deeply about his students; a realistic depiction of the struggles of children on the Mexican border; and a testament to the transformative nature and privilege of education!
Another teacher story so I was concerned if I’d like it, but I loved that it’s a true story & the cultural aspect so much. Got to invest in kids! Made me tear up. Brought up topics that many kids have to see or even be part of. It left unanswered questions, but that’s life

This movie didn't get the attention that it deserved. This is a good portrayal of how education can be in some parts of Mexico. Some people were born to be educators, and Sergio was one of them. Amazing movie!

A well put movie, the actors all played great roles. He gave me a glimpse of what goes on in the education system outside of the US in Mexico. A story that makes you reflect on your life! Love that it was in Spanish with English subtitles.

I had gone in knowing it was a subtitle movie, though my husband is fluent in Spanish, I knew I’d have to do some reading personally. But it was such an aspiring movie that I hadn’t realized how much reading I had done. I truly recommend this movie as it is based on an…
AMAshley Martin"Isn't everything possible until it's done?" Eugenio Derbez does an excellent job in his role as unconventional & radical teacher, Sergio, who lights the right, life-changing fire in his students. Showing a real and raw reality of roses in a desert, we meet unforgettable…
