Moviegoers are saying
Tina Romero's 'Queens of the Dead' delivers a gloriously queer zombie spectacle that honors the Romero legacy while blazing its own rainbow-soaked path. Audiences are captivated by Katy O'Brian's commanding butch performance and the film's unapologetically campy aesthetic featuring bedazzled weapons, glittery zombies, and what reviewers lovingly call 'bisexual lighting.'

yourmom2000Oct 9, 2025Ok FINALLY a contemporary horror movie where the weapons are bedazzled, the zombies are glittery, the lighting is bisexual, and Katy O’Brien’s arms are front and center!!! Thank you Ms Romero!!!!!!
Alex KittleOct 28, 2025Leave it to The Romero family to shake up the Zombie subgenre again. It’s scrappy as hell and campy as FUUUUUUUUK but if you’re into that vibe it’s a fun time and really funny at times, even mores when it’s just our heroes being catty with one another. Reminded me of…

Thought this was utterly delightful. Really appreciated the attempts to continue the thematic throughlines of George Romero’s dead movies while still being extremely its own thing. Katy O’Brian is pretty excellent in this, kills the quiet emotional moments. There’s a little…

This was such a joyful tribute to her father’s legacy! It’s packed with clever nods to classic zombie cinema and features some truly entertaining performances. I loved every minute of it, perfectly captures that charming, campy vibe that makes this genre so much fun to watch.
Andre likedQueens of the DeadIf this had a bigger budget or maybe even better writers this could’ve been really good. Only two characters are likable i fear and those are the two main queens and the acting from some individuals…rough
Dhay likedQueens of the Deadit was fun for an indie film even tho the writing and filming and acting was not the best but i still enjoyed it

Not the best zombie movie but far better work than her father’s last few “living dead” movies.

Indeed, there are many moments scattered throughout the film – one-liners, set-pieces, character intros, dance-offs – that would work nicely in a skit in a nightclub show or on TikTok. There’s a lack of overall storytelling momentum, though: like the zombies themselves, events mostly just kind of shuffle along.

A few heavy-handed stabs at commentary aside, “Queens of the Dead” gets by with good, flirty cheer.

Its aesthetic approach seldom lives up to its gestures toward camp as a guiding principle or its weighty themes (except, perhaps, in its surprisingly raucous final act). However, its flimsy aesthetic foundations are supported by remarkably well-formed characters.
