Jen is "meh" onPrimetimeclose to getting a dislike but the acting was good. by about halfway through, i thought to myself, “this can’t be all there is,” but then i realized there was no plot to be resolved in the first place. super melodramatic in a pointless way. artsy with zero substance.

It’s a stunning demonstration of [Pattinson’s] range, and watching the film you can’t imagine any other performer of his generation pulling it off.

Robert Pattinson puts in a striking performance as the embattled Hansen, and Merritt Wever is phenomenal as (fictional) producer Andie Bender. Yet coming just a year after David Osit’s excellent documentary Predators, and featuring much in the way of dramatic contrivance, Primetime can feel like a somewhat lurid dramatisation of a knotty real-life subject.

Daniel Garber’s inspired, allusive and often very witty editing style constantly makes illuminating connections and interruptions. But otherwise, this uncompromisingly grimy approach would be actively repellent were it not for the extraordinary performances, which make “Primetime” a thing you cannot stop watching even as the desire to flee to the nearest shower cubicle grows.
