Den_of_geeksOct 16, 2012I really hate this film..... BECAUSE EVERY TIME I SEE IT, IT MAKES ME SO HAPPY AND THEN I WANT TO DANCE, BOOGIE WOOGIE, DO SOMERSAULTS AND BACKFLIPS, POP AND LOCK AND EVEN A TWIRL AND A FAME JUMP OR TWO BUT I CAN'T BECAUSE I'M BUILT LIKE AN ELEPHANT AND HAVE THE MOTOR…

zoë rose bryantFeb 15, 2014The Jerk and Uncle Buck as the oldest looking teenagers to ever star in a John Hughes coming-of-age-road-trip film. A taxi race with Kevin fuckin' Bacon. The first time you see John Candy's facial expressions. A bitchy flight attendant. A semi-boring sounding Ben Stein.…

laurenNov 19, 2025First time watch and it already means so much to me. In the scene where Neal finally breaks and berates Del, the subtle things John Candy is doing, the way he looks at the ground or the change in his inflection, is nothing short of a masterclass. Movie also made me…

A hilarious and compelling odyssey about the importance of kindness and friendship. Feel good without being cringey. Comedy and emotion are balanced beautifully. John Candy and Steve Martain give the best performances of their career. Easily the greatest comedy of all time.

I had such high expectations the first time because I had heard so many things. So I didn’t like it that much. After rewatching with a clear mind it’s an obvious classic. Going even past the comedy. The first time I thought it was about changin Del. But this time I understood the point of the movie…

A cynical Steve Martin is stuck traveling with a jolly John Candy while they try to make it home in time for the holiday after their flight is cancelled. Hilarious to the core, & downright emotional at some points. Truly a must see. Watch with your family around Thanksgiving.
I mean it’s two comedic legends but I think it was just okay. It has some fun parts but it’s pretty slow and not that funny for the most part. I didn’t grow up with it but sorry I was mostly bored with it. Wife and I got more irritated at things than laughed at them lol.

It is perfectly cast and soundly constructed, and all else flows naturally. Steve Martin and John Candy don't play characters; they embody themselves.
Mr. Martin and Mr. Candy are an easy twosome to watch even with marginal material, though, and the film is never worse than slow.
