Ron Howard’s “Pavarotti” is a warm but distant (and hagiographic) documentary about the most lucrative tenor who’s ever lived. It opens with its boisterous namesake belting out an aria in the middle of the Amazon, and then spends the rest of its running time showing us how…
davidehrlichJul 20, 2019Pavarotti is a pretty straightforward documentary directed by Ron Howards celebrating the life of one of the greatest opera singers of all time. The film provides many fascinating insights into Luciano Pavarotti's life such as his family history, early musical career, his…
Mark M.Jun 4, 2019Backlog from a few years ago. Pavarotti was my life when I was a kid. We played every opera he was in on the car radio wherever we went. I was so sad when the news said he had died. Anyways, when I saw this, I remember really feeling annoyed how it was spending so much time…

4th Ron Howard (after Frost/Nixon, Rush and Gung-Ho) Pavarotti makes an interesting counterpoint with The Power of Emotion in the way that the grand opera tradition is able to evoke sympathy in an audience. I've been reading a lot recently about the way in which films…
Doc LyonJust another proof our boy Ron Howard still got it... This is perhaps the greatest musical documentary to come out this year. It may not have the same level of crazy madness that hook you in like those Fyre Fest ones, but it does have such a compelling narrative that…

Pavarotti rendition of Nessum Dorma is my all time favourite. I went to see him in concert when The Three Tenors came to Toronto as part of their concert tour in 1997. His voice and operatic renditions still makes me happy. When I heard that Ron Howard was making a…
LorenzoJun 8, 2019all hail the king of the tenors what a stinkin cute patoot he was 💕
kathryn s.Sep 26, 2019I must start this review by admiting to having basically no knowledge of opera. What I’ve seen has offered minimal appeal. As a 34 year old, I have only the vaguest recollections of Pavarotti’s career. I was blown away by what a captivating, charismatic presence Luciano…

Loved it! A great break from coverage of our dreadful lying president!!
Amazing story. So many things I did not know about this amazing artist.
Metacritic
The film soft-peddles any sense of controversy but what emerges is an entertaining portrait of a generous, funny, larger-than-life figure. And the music is sublime.
A warm, emotional and completely involving film about the celebrated tenor.
Ron Howard’s documentary Pavarotti is content to bask in his glow; despite the broad array of home movies, family photos, interviews, TV outtakes, and concert recordings at its disposal, it never feels intimate with Pavarotti the person.
