"Some of them say that we're sick, we're crazy. And some of them think that we are the most gorgeous, special things on Earth."

BKJun 28, 2021The most beautiful movie I've ever seen. Not in aesthetic, but in spirit; watching these stunning men and women live so freely, so safely, and so joyfully in this safe space they've created, a space where they're allowed to be themselves as much as they're allowed to be the…

In many documentaries, there's a moment where it's revealed that a person we've been following for a while now actually died-- or rather, has been dead. Usually the person being interviewed about it starts to weep. We were close to this very real person. We became intimate…
Carol GrantJun 1, 2020When Madonna came out with her hit "Vogue" you knew it was over. She'd taken a very specifically queer, transgender, Latino and African-American phenomenon and totally erased that context with lyrics about how "It makes no difference if you're black or white, if you're a…
ElizaMay 24, 2021Found myself thinking of Venus Xtravaganza all day today. Cried and cried and cried listening to her speak on the hopes and dreams she had for her future with her partner. Knowing how her life ended breaks me every time I think about it. The shot of Venus, with the sunset…

that shot of venus xtravaganza on the pier at dusk next to the massive boombox, her image immortalized on film, is simply one of the most profoundly touching moments in a profoundly moving film.
AshtonJul 26, 2014God, please just let us celebrate while we're here. Let us dance and open up the world to one another. We want to live out our dreams and be the people who we always wanted to be. We'll reach for that safe place where we can exist and let everything else fall out of vision.…

Will never not think about the body in the suitcase that was in the closet the whole time they were interviewing Miss Dorian
This documentary was so beautiful. It really shows the depth & roots of ballroom and being queer in ny and does it flawlessly. Everything about this documentary was so powerful and so touching. It’s like I was there and I knew everybody in the film. Truly amazing. 10/10

Such and important insight and small sliver of queer culture at a time where they were relegated and cast off. You see how bright of stars there were and how they created community and culture that now we're able to see the impact on the mainstream they created.
an incredibly powerful documentary, and simply one of the best. the interviews are so raw and honest, giving one-of-a-kind insights into the lives of these wonderful artists and creators. as spiritual and beautiful as it is moving and tragic; not for bigots

It had a beautiful in depth view of the emotions and feelings of a marginalized community. Without creating an echo chamber, it perfectly exemplified multiple shared sentiments of realness, love, death, affluence (or the lack thereof), and community.
God that was beautiful. So full of gay culture and was really real. Couldn’t stop tearing up through out because the communities they were able to create was beautiful and let us future queer people share our beauty unapologetically.
