Synopsis
An average man is kidnapped and imprisoned in a shabby cell for 15 years without explanation. He then is released, equipped with money, a cellphone and expensive clothes. As he strives to explain his imprisonment and get his revenge, Oh Dae-Su soon finds out that his kidnapper has a greater plan for him and is set onto a path of pain and suffering in an attempt to uncover the motive of his mysterious tormentor. Remastered 20th Anniversary rerelease of Park Chan-Wook's 2003 masterpiece.

I watched this back in like middle school or something and barely remembered anything, which worked out I guess bc I couldn’t remember the plot twist 😭😭 But one of THE BEST film scores imo the waltz is too good 😤
لانا dislikedOldboyDidn’t do it for me. The so called “plot twist” everyone talks about could be seen from miles away. Oh he met a girl that’s approximately his daughter’s age? And for the rest of the movie the daughter is never seen again? Take a guess why. Also stupid plot and story overall.

Soki likedOldboyActually scarring. It is well-made, sure, but at some point you have to ask yourself “what is the point of all of this apart from maybe shock-value”. The plot twist is horrible (in the “best” way possible), and has you thinking about it for several days. Would recommend it though
Jackdiddlywack dislikedOldboyEdit: Unfortunately I spoiled the ending for myself by reading reviews. Not much has changed for me though. Sorry @hrs but even though the incest is a tragedy it was more of just cringy for me. I did like the iconic fight scenes though, that did change for me.

Oldboy is mostly absorbing because of the intense anguish radiating off the screen at all times; Park’s ability to effectively communicate obsession, and put the audience in the head of someone who has almost entirely lost touch with his sense of self, feels unparalleled to this day.
