The final shot is meant to represent that they are on a train

mariaI love what Hitchcock does visually here. Also probably his silliest (that last cut is hilarious.) Isn't this essentially just The 39 Steps with more creative freedom? He even mentions the number 39.

100 (35mm) North by Northwest is famous because of one scene. Now, that doesn't mean the rest of it is lacking, as it should be common knowledge of its solidified place in the canon of the greatest American films in the history of the cinema, but the zenith is found…
SilentDawnAug 12, 2024“Games? Must we?” It’s fitting that North By Northwest truly gets going when a Madison Avenue Ad exec, played by consummate leading man Cary Grant, finds himself at the wheel of a stolen car and headed for a cliff after having been force-fed a bottle of bourbon by…
Christopher McQuarrieAug 31, 2014Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest features a captivating first half, making terrific use of wit, tension & elements of suspense but the film as a whole is unfortunately marred by a lacklustre second half which bogs the story down with a drawn out narrative that makes…

I very much enjoyed this!!!! THIS IS MY FIRST ALFRED HITCHCOCK FILM!!!!! Cant wait for many more!!! The story was very well written and the characters were super interesting!!! I think this film is a really well made action adventure!!!! I see a lot of different action movies that have similar…
Gripping spy thriller with great tension & terrific cast. Grant is winsome as a proactive man of quick wit. Saint is a charming co-star that shines equally bright. The pair sizzles with chemistry. The presentation is great, with great shots, memorable set pieces, and good score.

Watched while on a plane for optimal effect. Having purposely not read/seen anything about this classic, I was actually really surprised to learn it was an espionage thriller. It was also very clearly an influence in Fincher, for The Game. Amazing lead chemistry unsurprisingly.
We just don't have a Cary Grant for today's generation, and it's so sad. I wasn't as crazy about this spy thriller as I expected, but it was still damn good. The plane sequence at the bus stop and the Mount Rushmore sequence were the standout scenes for me.

This is Hitchcock's longest film and also his most self-referential. Little jokes abound about art and artifice, role play and reality, duty and duplicity and each viewing reveals something new to enhance the pleasure of watching the Master of Suspense at his most mischievous and assured.
