Horror Movie Lover is "meh" onNightbreedI watched this movie when my friend was sleeping over. We were pulling an all-nighter and didn’t fall asleep during the movie so it wasn’t that it was boring :). Maybe it was poorly written, poorly acted, or I should have paid more attention, but I got pretty lost and confused.
Angie Lankford lovedNightbreedFar and away my favorite horror movie. Clive Barker adapted this film from his novella, “Cabal,” and it does not disappoint. The special effects are awesome, and the creatures are terrifying. Think of them as a horrific version of the Mos Eisley Cantina inhabitants.

One of my favorite Clive Barker films. First, David Cronenberg is fantastic as Decker. That mask. His persona. Fantastically creepy. Midian and its monsters are all unique and interesting. It’s a dark faerie tale where the humans are the strange and weird.

Gothic, weird, and richly imaginative. It’s definitely weird. It’s got that Halloweentown kinda feel but with a more mature & darker atmosphere. Creature effects are top-notch, and the worldbuilding is wonderfully strange.

Sad to say, poor old Nightbreed fails even as failure - it's bad, but it's not memorably bad. The odor it emits is less the stench of an eternal hell than the stink of a passing purgatory. If nothing is forgiven by the time you've done your time in the theatre, all is certainly forgotten. [20 Feb 1990]
