Atom User Reviews for Napoleon
No story line with a plot and climax… no real character development… I was happy for it to be over
You can and should skip this movie. Fell asleep twice and yet, missed nothing. Excellent performance by Vanessa Kirby. Unbelievably bad performance by Joaquin Phoenix, rotten script, rotten editing job. Ridley Scott fails to capture the epic nature of the character or the changing battlefield. Nothing compelling, inspiring, or charismatic to redeem or invest in the movie.
The battle scenes and the action was good but the other scenes were not necessary
**********A ten star movie. Mr. Phoenix captivating interpretation i
Bad
The movie felt like a soap opera, too much time spent on Josephine when they should have focused that time on Napoleon’s accomplishments, merits in battle, and his efforts for France and the Empire. While the film has some great imagery, and the costumes are great, the dialogue and the acting felt short of what it could have accomplished with such a great actor and Director.
Poorly written and horrible chemistry
Good but not great. Battle scenes are exciting but the rest of tbe story falls flat.
Once again a director misses the point in presenting one of the most enigmatic characters in history. Once again we have a horny presentation of a character that was more immense that it was presented
Honestly, there were too many intimate scenes and not enough story telling. The lines were lacking as well and the story was incomplete.
Was truly excited to see this; however, it was an exhausting disappointment that was as interesting as a wet paper towel. It had so much potential. The bright side was the production, including outfits and special effects, which were outstanding. 3.5/10 for me dawg.
Movie was not what I expected. Was dissapointed
Great movie minus the sex scenes. Not sure why they always feel the need for a love story. It could have done without. I was hoping for more battles.
Great movie
The real Napoleon was legendary and bigger than life, by all accounts a remarkable man and one of a kind who changed the course of history. Ridley Scott managed to reduce him to a boring tired looking old man with a perpetual hangover look on his face. This could have been a great epic movie on his life but unfortunately it’s anything but. Disappointing. Not one of Ridley’s best.
There were some good moments and Joaquin Phoenix did a great job. But this movie left a lot of loose ends. Not very good story
smiping for josephine
Hardly to see why the historic true story of Napoleon Bonapart, the French leader who emerged out of obscurity to marshal large millions of his people and materiel to realized his own vision, despite daunting odds—appeals to leading directors. It’s an impression that it’s about his toxic romantic and volatile relationship with his wife, Josephine and his own downfall and exile death in St. Helena
Napoleon is one of the most charismatic men to ever walk earth and the movie made him into a whiny little boy that needs constant validation from his s**t wife
Don't take your dad with you. Porn movie. We left!
Underwhelming
Very good. Would highly recommend
Great movie
Many holes in the story but entertaining
Best war film I've seen in a longggg time
Complex and Historical
Good as a movie, not good as history. You just can’t cover Napoleon’s 60 battles from Toulon to Waterloo, the Josephine love story, his complete restructuring of government, law, education, metric system, and more, and throw in the French Revolution, all in 158 minutes. For me it never dragged, it should have been longer. To
A better job could’ve been done with his relationship with Josephine. We all know they had sex back then. Depicting it detracted from the real story.
It is a very interesting and beautiful movie that youngsters need to know and learn.
The story telling was a little off- very awkward and not in a funny way.
An eye opener to historical events of epic proportions.
What did they do to my manz
this movie has no idea what it wanted to be. Napoleon was not 1-dimensional? Is that the plot? Ridley Scott is overrated. has some absolute bangers in his repertoire but also many overrated movies like this one.
the best battle scenes since gladiator
Metacritic
Starting with the French revolution and ending with Monsieur Bonaparte’s no-bang-all-whimper exit from this mortal coil, the director’s sweeping, swaggering, occasionally stumbling history lesson is nothing more than an attempt to conjure up the road-show movie magic of yesteryear.

We don't need another hero, but when it comes to the man at its center, Napoleon could have used a lot more oomph.
