In the end, the film works better as a portrait of a woman putting herself first than as a reveal of Hollywood’s inequitable games.

It's clear that Rock should have spent more time trimming down Misty Green into something more succinct. There was potential for a great movie here, but it lacks the refinement to make it anything more than just another forgettable drama in a sea of dramas at the festival.

It’s to Eleazar’s great credit that, despite this and the increasingly convoluted motions of the script, she’s able to carve out her own space in the film.
