First watch:Creepy but I liked it. Second : Just a stupid slasher movie. Third: Misery’s a commentary on the dangers of fanaticism. Fourth:Annie Wilkes is just a lonely woman looking for companionship, who can blame her? Fifth: A RomCom about an aspiring writer and protective gf
I remember my big sister had this downloaded on her laptop when I was little, and I kept watching it over and over. Even tho I got scared each time, I kept re-traumatizing myself. Incredible acting especially from Kathy, loved her mental ups and downs and the way she shifts into-

Hits so much harder when you know nothing other than Kathy Bates going nuts, and playing it with an unhinged amount of uncertainty. Stephen King stories are always submerged in hyper-realistic themes and are told very erratically. It's like being on Twitter for an hour half. A creator's possession…

🟤I just love the character of Annie Wilkes. The CocaCola-drinking, dating show watching, corny furnishings-loving, ex-nurse psychopath living on her own in the woods just gives my horror loving heart joy. She really is simple and true to life, but also so out there and camp.⚪
the book is definitely better than the film, but it's still a great film and i like it. i think kathy bates did a good job as annie i definitely recommend the book for anyone i finally got to read the book a few months ago and watched thy film after :P

In a way, Misery is a ghoul comedy. But it's more than that, because it's genuinely, consistently scary. With his enthusiastic direction -- the cutting, the odd angles, the unexpected timing -- Rob Reiner takes what might have been a static set-up, a couple of people talking in a room, and makes it harrowing. [30 Nov 1990, p.E1]
Reiner's direction and William Goldman's script succeed on their own cartoonish level, and Kathy Bates, who plays the fan as if she were a close relative of Norman Bates, rips into the role with undisguised relish. [30 Nov 1990, p.24]
