Reportedly one of Adolf Hitler's favourite films. A part of me thinks he didn't quite get it...

truNov 3, 2014Decades Project: 1/2 of the 20's "But the hands that built the Tower of Babel knew nothing of the dream of the head that conceived it. The hymns of praise of one man became the curses of others." Fun fact: Metropolis is actually just Star Wars in disguise. A…

queueing this up alongside "the time machine" and "us" to explore the legacy of subterranian proletarians throughout history. that's a free film school thesis proposal, my gift to you
even tho i haven’t watched this, it looks a little ahead of it’s time which is good!
very well done for a silent film, it really portrayed a whole story, especially one that I haven't actually really seen much before. even for a silent film it was pretty intense at moments, I'd reccomend to anyone who wants to get more into movies to see the creativity it brought

Metropolis was ahead of its time by a long shot. While it’s a timeless classic already, I believe if this was a movie made with modern technology, it would be a blockbuster. Even so, there’s a beautiful art to its silence, relying solely on thematic storytelling & cinematography.
full disclosure i did watch on 1.75x speed cause Damn 2.5 hours of silence man but Wow pretty cool to watch one of the first sci-fi films (and watch it the year before it’s set to take place) Especially being able to watch the full reconstructed version w/ the lost 16mm and 35m
The visuals for Metropolis were insane for the time. The production design was phenomenal and I can’t say it enough, early film editing intrigue me. The story was pretty well written. Way ahead of its time for sure. 1920’s acting looks eerily similar to 2020’s tiktok acting.

This is probably the greatest Weimar era film. It’s very iconic and once you watch it you will see and cherish references to this great 20s era film. Be prepared for a very long movie, definitely the longest silent film I’ve ever watched. I cherish silent movies now
Massively influential and a true masterpiece of the silent era. Score is incredible, it had to be and it is. Story is relevant to today and the world building for a 20s film is insane. Fritz Lang is incredible and the distinct visual style is timeless. Wow

Seeing it is a time-bending experience, a way of visiting the past and glimpsing the past's idea of the future. A masterpiece of art direction, the movie has influenced our vision of the future ever since, with its imposing white monoliths and starched facades.
You've seen the rest; now see the best.
After half a century, does the story hold up? Eh, pretty much. In the end, the story doesn't really matter that much as this is really a vehicle for the amazing visuals.
