Moviegoers are saying
This Florida-set mermaid tale divides audiences with its commitment to weirdness over narrative polish, featuring Johnny Pemberton as a drug-addicted loser who discovers a slimy, practical-effects mermaid that's more Christopher Columbus nightmare than Disney fantasy. While some embrace its offbeat charm and timeless Florida sleaze aesthetic, others find it frustratingly content to wallow in its own strangeness without developing into something truly memorable.

i mean this is just your average everyday florida man. i'd be shocked if one found a mermaid and didn't abandon everyone for her.

More comedy than horror with strangely successful chemistry between Johnny Pemberton likable loser and the Mermaid played by Avery Potemri, this movie really charmed me amidst the brightly colored Florida backdrop and the dark gator-esque underbelly.  Really liked how the…

It’s SPLASH, only it’s in Fort Lauderdale, Tom Hanks is addicted to percs, and the mermaid doesn’t look like Daryl Hannah.* Any of you ever read Christopher Columbus’s journals? They’re absolutely not recommended, but the section where he starts forlornly lamenting the…

man good movie, well acted by the homie Pemberton. And made florida look EVEN more appealing to me somehow. Watching Robert Patrick go off, was great. Lot of fun laughs, and the movie looks great, and the score is fun AF

An odd creature feature that never fully commits to being anything beyond its own weirdness. First thing that I noticed, the creature design in here is fantastic. The mermaid actually looks disgusting in the best possible way, less fairy tale fantasy and more slimy fish…

Mermaid, despite its flaws, is enjoyable enough for its unique depiction of mermaids and its portrayal of a “Florida man” come to life. Sure, the title is unoriginal, but its presentation is not. Of course, it’s nowhere near as good as “Splash,” but it doesn’t need to be.
