Griffin NewmanDec 7, 2023I like the cinematography. I like the makeup. I like the acting. I really like the editing. I like that it starts with Comden and Green and ends with Tears for Fears. And yet ... I don’t really like Maestro. My second viewing left me just as cold as the first. I don’t…

This movie doesn’t have anything to say about music. This movie doesn’t have anything to say about artistry. This movie doesn’t have anything to say about relationships. This movie doesn’t have anything to say about marriage. This movie doesn’t have anything to say about…
Marya E. GatesDec 22, 2023Not the worst Oscar bait I've seen, though considering how desperately Bradley Cooper wants to win one, it is really funny that Carey Mulligan acts circles around him in every scene they're both in

Definitely not devoid of quality since the acting and other elements are pretty great, but it still feels so lifeless. The story’s theme feels lost in the writing, which leads to a huge disconnect in the emotional core. I couldn’t care about these characters the way I needed to.
The acting, cinematography and music (obviously) was amazing, but the movie felt like it lacked proper substance. I feel like the audience didn’t properly get to know/feel a proper connection with Leonard B. There were definitely some good parts but overall it felt a bit hollow.
6.5 - I knew nothing of LB going in & feel I still don’t. It feels very surface. Hollow. Every statement is a wink & nudge & not fully realized. Feels like huge chunks of the story are left out. It’s technically fantastic - acting, visuals, flow. It’s just hard to really care.

yea this is my favorite movie of 2023 so far. My brother and i watched it together and agreed: -this solidified Bradley Cooper as one of the greatest actors of his generation -Carey Mulligan deserves best supporting actress -cinematography and lighting was the best -much more
I wouldn’t recommend seeing this if you’re not a legitimate Leonard Bernstein fan. I felt disconnected and somewhat lost for most of the film because it doesn’t focus much on his actual story. Amazing acting though and extremely good directing and cinematography

let me preface by saying i didnt know a single thing about leonard bernstein prior to this movie and i cant speak on accuracy, but what an excellent filmmmmm— sooo beautiful. the cinematography was gorgeous. there was one specific shot that left me stunned. (1/3)
Powerful performances, stellar directing and beautiful cinematography; A powerful story that’s greatly executed. Bradley Cooper is a great actor but might be a better director and this film makes me see why Spielberg wanted him to direct this rather than himself.
