the earliest hints of Scarlett Johansson's asian heritage can be traced back to the filming of this movie

I did not like this movie at all.For me I felt like the movie didn’t flow, it felt like they filmed scenes and just them together. Personally I didn’t like the massive age gap between them
this movie is so good, i definitely recommend this! haha its like a late night film
"I'm stuck. Does it get easier?" "I just don't know what I'm supposed to be" Directored so hard you don't know how to communicate your feelings except by making a film. I really feel sorry for everyone who thinks this was just about the romantic relationship between the 2 main-

The director pictured being lost in the physical and emotional sense. And how human connection is sometimes the only thing that can help us find our way. so The main characters are lost and confused in their own lives. and they used the foreign setting to mirror this.
aesthetically, the film is very beautiful, it has very good montages but there is a lot in the story that feels like filler and ends up being boring, not to mention that there are dialogues that could be somewhat problematic nowadays 4/10

I’m torn between “meh” and “like.” I was underwhelmed. Cool soundtrack & cinematography. What I didn’t like was the ambiguous relationship between the main characters. Was it platonic or romantic? It was unsettling. Visually & sonically pretty though. “Meh” because it’s overrated

Not much happens, but Coppola is so gentle and witty an observer that the movie casts a spell. [15 September 2003, p. 100]
Coppola both wrote and directed, and there#146;s a pleasing shapelessness to her scenes. She accomplishes the difficult feat of showing people being bored out of their skulls in such a way that we are never bored watching them.
The film's unhurried pace will target it for discerning audiences only, but its wry humor and coolly amused observation of contemporary Japan should score with smart urbanites.
