Jef Costello really should look into the concept of disguise. I mean I get it - he looks super dapper and all… But a wig or, you know, not wearing his favourite hat all the time really would’ve saved Jef quite a lot of trouble.

Melville's personal connection to the WWII resistance film as gangster tragedy in Army of Shadows makes that one a more affecting gut punch, but this is probably still the purest, most pared-down, and undeniably influential expression of his love of the cutthroat economy of…
Josh LewisSep 14, 2020Captivating from the first frame to the last. Am I just saying that because I studied abroad in Paris and miss the thrill of riding a subway? Specifically the Paris subway? Maybe, but a lot of other people seem to really love this so it CAN’T be that! (I miss public…

The writing in this is so achingly dumb oh my god. The so called "sharp and professional killer"walks into the casino at peak hour full of customers and security, wearing brightly colored clothes. Then he talks to the guy he's about to kill giving him the opportunity to react.He-
Engaging story & atmosphere, but not much I connected to on a character level. The ending uses a trope I have mixed feelings on. The sound is mostly diagetic, but the music is very enjoyable when it's used. I think Jef's bird chirping is what actually drives him to murder.

There is no greater solitude than that of the samurai, unless it is that of the tiger in the jungle... perhaps...
I don’t know why but it gives me Taxi driver and Reservoir dogs vibes. Also Jef Costello is a savage
