When an underhanded pharmaceutical company goes to a remote tropical island to steal King Kong for advertising purposes, they get more than they bargained for when the gigantic ape attacks an unsuspecting village. Meanwhile, deep in the sea, a submarine crew unleashes reptillian terror when they melt a block of ice and release the ferocious Godzilla from his icy lair. When both destructive monsters descend on Tokyo, it's a fight that holds the future of mankind in the balance.

- The comical businessman is named "Tako," which means "octopus," a recurring motif in the film both literally and figuratively.
- You can see the eyes of the stuntman playing Kong through the eyes of the Kong suit head, especially near the end when Kong is unconscious, before he gets struck by lightning, in the close-ups of him laying on the ground while Godzilla is hitting him with his tail.
- Mr. Tako: King Kong can't make a monkey out of us.

It began a transition in the series away from horror and toward kid-friendly adventure.
The one mild surprise of this cheap reprise of earlier Hollywood and Japanese horror films is the ineptitude of its fakery.
