Hercules is totally that guy at the house party who enters the one room marked strictly off limits. Then he pukes on the bed. A year later, your sister's dating him.
Michael StrenskiAug 2, 2016Worth it just for the awakening of Talos.
ScreeningNotesJun 4, 2020Ray Harryhausen and his creatures are the true stars of the show. The skeleton fight alone makes it worth watching. I can't believe how good it still looks.

if i was being attacked by a giant iron statue, screaming harpies, a hydra, or a group of skeletons with swords i would simply let them kill me in an extremely cool way and say thank you for the privilege of being your murder victim
sydneyDec 2, 2020In the era where epic films seems to be at the top of the order -especially those regarding the Rome era-, this is perhaps the most ambitious but also the most boring. The fact I kept confusing this movie with another (read: Clash of the Titans) that came years after and…

"The gods are best served by those who need their help the least." I want to live a life that is fearless. For me, the adventurous spirit of Jason and the Argonauts dates back to my fifth grade class, where I sat on the floor and watched the VHS absolutely enraptured by…
theironcupcakeDec 2, 2025Despite not being a box office success at the time of its release, the fantasy genre might have peaked with JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS (1963), a glorious fantasy film that mixed the cheap Italian peplums into the magical and fantastical stop-motion animation by Ray…
Jon PetersJul 11, 2025A movie I had seen before… during my high school years, meaning “over a quarter-century ago.” Like with probably many, the dominant memory is the legendary Ray Harryhausen stop-motion effects finale where the titular heroes do battle with sword-wielding skeletons, a moment…

3.5/5 - the story itself is fine, just kind of the typical adaptation of Greek mythology (which I always enjoy) but what really makes this movie is the stop motion elements. The blend between live action and stop motion has held up really well and still makes such a clever and effective film :-)
besides the cool stop-animation, the story is boring. and it was supposed to be a two parter but the second movie was never made so it kind of ruins the whole story imo

Classic and fun. Excellent movie all around. Incredible for back in the day and incredible now.
A creature double feature favorite on Dr Shocks 1970s Saturday afternoon channel 48 TV.
