As a figure skating fan, this is a must watch!
I really enjoyed this movie and was very appreciative of Margot Robbies acting in this film. She has shown us great diversity in all her movies, and to see her portray this drama was impossible to look away. I am sure this was very awarding for her personally to have made this movie. Plus she is adorable and beautiful.
The tone is tongue-in-cheek, with teeth gritted so hard you can taste just a hint of blood.
This is a feel-real film, a sharp-witted, tough-minded biopic about Tonya Harding, the 1991 U.S. figure skating champion and two-time Olympian who skated rinks around most of her rivals but never became America’s sweetheart.
While it’s a consistently entertaining and often poignant film which addresses a wide range of issues under the stealth cover of humour, I, Tonya also gives Robbie the chance – her first, really – to show her full range as an actress. And she shines.

Did You Know?
- Although a member of an amateur ice hockey league, Margot Robbie did not have that much skating experience before taking on the role of Tonya Harding.
- The design on the ice in Lillehammer is a different colour and shape than portrayed in the film. Also the design is never visible in the "on ice" scenes.
- Tonya Harding: I mean, come on! What kind of friggin' person bashes in their friend's knee? Who would do that to a friend?
