Synopsis

She (Brittany Snow) is an adventurous writer pumping out scandalous content for a lifestyle magazine. He (Sam Richardson) is a hopeless romantic who's just been dumped by his high school sweetheart and given a medical diagnosis that's left him shook. After a chance meeting, the mismatched duo hit the road on a cross country trip to provide them both some much needed healing.

    I'm such a sucker for these types of movies. You give me any movie with an unlikely romance and I'll have a good time. Only thing I require is a little laugh here and there, which Hooking Up certainly provides.

    Despite the title and the premise, this is actually much more of a drama than a comedy. It has some laughs, but it lingers on the emotional far longer and it uses that to its advantage. What the characters are dealing with in their personal lives actually has weight to it…

    What a terrible story for a rom-com. Sure there's been rom-coms done like this before. But this is purely a crass, stale, and mostly unfunny rendition of those out there that are much better.

    "Hooking Up" with Richardson and Snow, As each character deals with their lows. Title and poster foretold, Just some fun on the road! Without advertising the real stuff though...

Weirdly prudish about the intimacy scenes, the sex addiction storyline is a cheap attempt to spice up the romcom formula, but this movie is as vanilla as they come.

While not everything connects in the movie, Hooking Up is saved by the efforts of Snow and Richardson. They make a charming couple, even if the film itself has less allure.
