when i first watched this film as a kid, i asked my dad what a virgin was and he told me it was a person from virginia

kennedy is "meh" onHocus Pocusso cheesy and predictable. nothing really of substance here. funny at times. sisters have a really authentic, fun and funny dynamic. i enjoyed my time watching but still a meh.

I got to see this before it came out in theaters, (back in '93!), and loved it so much, we paid again to see. it when it finally premiered! So, when we saw that AMC was bringing it back; my daughter and I knew we had to get tickets!

Just about every line of dialogue written for a child or teenager is painful (the movie must have been dated a week after release), though I suppose that helps Hocus Pocus work as a time capsule. Far more charm can be found in the largely practical effects and sets.

Trying to break expectations isn't always a wise idea and here Disney show how not to do it. With this supposed-family movie, they disappoint on nearly every level. The plot is weak, the action poor and it's got Bette Midler, simply dreadful.

Apparently too much eye of newt got into the formula for Hocus Pocus, transforming a potentially wicked Bette Midler vehicle into an unholy mess. That's too bad, since Ms. Midler's appearance in a role like the one she has here could have been pure witchcraft.
