I can understand why His Girl Friday is usually labelled, first and foremost, a screwball romantic comedy. There's certainly plenty going on in its last 20 minutes to support that labelling especially. But on this, my third viewing, I still remain resolutely unconvinced…
🇵🇱 Steve G 🐝Feb 6, 2018i was shocked to find out that no character in this movie is named friday
jocey coffmanJul 4, 2019i think this could be categorized as an action film based purely upon the pace of the dialogue.

There's a scene where Rosalind Russell is on the typewriter and Cary Grant is on the phone and Ralph Belamey is trying to talk to Russell, and all three are talking a mile a minute in perfect synch with each other, and... folks, I don't know if anyone alive today could pull…
Will SloanApr 13, 2021Cary Grant is so nasty in this. He says someone has a brain like a pancake
brendan o'hareThis movie combines my four favorite activities: 1) talking too much 2) rapid-fire flirting 3) lightly roasting someone as a form of sexy one-upmanship and 4) getting to the bottom of things. Think I just found a new all-time favorite for me.

I’ve always loved his girl friday, the gender roles are ahead of its time. It’s the perfect mix of funny and dramatic. I’ve heard people say the plot and ending was silly but personally I think it was funnier that way and completely intentional.
This is worth watching if only because it’s 80+ years old but the gender dynamics feel incredibly modern - might really change your POV on mid-century history!
🤣 Laughed multiple times and smiled throughout. The dialogue is also very fast paced. I feel bad for Bruce tho ☹️ “Sure, they'll be naming streets after you. Hildy Johnson Street. There'll be statues of ya in the park. The movies will be after ya.” 10/10😊 Dec Thu 28, 2023 4:45 am

When it comes to screwball comedy, it's probably the only time I don't mind ads on Tubi because it's so chaotic and fast-paced it gives me a minute to breathe. I enjoy every second of it, though, and Cary Grant is a master of the genre, and Rosalind Russell was fantastic as well.
so much dialogue happens so quickly - tbh the plot line was kinda silly and didn’t really go anywhere, but for such an old movie it’s still pretty good. i feel like it would’ve been interesting to be in color, there should be a remake now that technology is so much better nowaday
It's clever, but the premise makes it difficult to enjoy perfectly thoroughly (the fact that Hildy was planning to acquire a second "husband" makes things a bit less romantic and makes the viewer question how stable the ground of this rekindled relationship will be).

Although the word “Friday” is never uttered once in the entire runtime, the chemistry between Grant and Russell cements this as a classic. 3/5 ⭐️
Completely in style: crazy story with a lot of shouting over each other. Different time back then, inimitable nostalgia!

His Girl Friday is satire of the highest order.
Howard Hawke's finest moment.
His Girl Friday probably shouldn’t be approached lightly. You don’t want to try and watch this when you’re half asleep. His Girl Friday is probably best seen in the middle of crystal meth adventure. If you’re not paying attention you’ll probably miss all the jokes and not understand this movie.
