itscharlibbMay 28, 2015Someday, I'll write about this "film." Someday, I'll write an actual review; a long, and hopefully well constructed one, voicing my thoughts on its replication of reality. For now though, it's much too raw, much too close of a memory. I never thought that I would…
Eli HayesAug 29, 2015Was never a homeless junkie, but I have been high on heroin at a White Castle, so I can definitely say that part is pretty realistic.

Uncut Gems Hype Ofcourse Caleb Landry Jones is in this. On that note if the Safdie brothers never utilize Steve Buscemi in one of their films their entire career was a waste. Anyways, this is one of the grittiest things I’ve seen. A lot grittier and more authentic than…

It was interesting yet saddening to see what reality is like for homeless drug addicts. This must've been hard for Arielle Holmes (Harley) to film this because it is based on her life. So grimey, i enjoyed it; i really liked the music score throughout, a lot of cool synths.
Very well done film, reminds me of the 1984 documentary Streetwise and the film Kids. Not as rough as Kids, but still very eye opening to the suffering life of street addicts. I love camera work, the film coloring and the score a lot. Highly recommend.

Alas, the main thing that comes through in Heaven Knows What is that a junkie’s life is really, really monotonous.
As captured by the Safdies, they are — one and all — persuasive, arresting and fiercely in the moment, whether scamming or shooting up or doing heaven knows what to get by.
The result is a work that—like a whole sub-species of French films of the recent decades—fetishizes its own hyper-naturalistic visual style and performances (all but one by non-actors) while offering no original or striking insights into the world it portrays.
