A purported clinical documentary on witchcraft and satanism drawn almost entirely in unhinged expressionist horror images including foggy subterranean lairs, women giving birth to hairy horned beasts, moody nighttime broomstick rides, and general hysteria/torture that…
Josh LewisSep 11, 2019Do y'all know how funny it is to have someone walk behind you, and having to explain you're watching a silent Swedish documentary about witchcraft?
dselwynsOct 17, 2014"Oh, you learned men!" For some reason I always thought this was a hysterical reactionary relic about the occult, but it's actually the exact opposite of that, a reason-oriented look at the phenomenon of witch hunts that even finds room for a little bit of wry humor…

the drawing of the witch kissing the devil's butt is everything to me
amayaOct 9, 2020This movie is 50% historical documentary, 50% surrealist horror, and 100% the horniest movie ever made.

Ethan ColburnFeb 26, 2024An avant-garde, heartfelt feminist documentary in 1922 is such a ballsy move in itself. Häxan, an experimental retelling of women's suffering throughout history, is as bizarre as it is humanistic and is deserving of its place in cinema history. Divided into 7 chapters,…

the scenes with the devil and the witches was my favorite part! the movie shows a lot of history of witches and the devil, which is super cool considering it came out in 1922. the soundtrack can be a bit whimsical; if you want to make it scary put on an ominous album over top!
What a monumental film, especially one from 1922. Also, I just realized I forgot to log this, so my watch date is not at all accurate.
