I don't like shitty horror movies. I do like self-aware shitty horror movies. This film is shitty, is fully aware of it, relishes in it and throws in some great gore. I like this movie.

This falls under the so bad it’s good type. And man it’s bad. Lol. Some really funny dialogue. Loved the girls bantering. Marcus was over the top which worked. So was the tour guide. Wet bloody but cheesy bloody. It’s laughable but fun If you’re in that mood. No Oscars here.

Even by campy 2000's slasher standards it is pretty bad. The dialogue in particular is awful. It gets a little better once the chopping and ripping starts, but even then it's not hard to find movies where it was done better during this time period.

This horror comedy is loaded with decapitations, bodies torn in two and spewing blood, and yet, unlike the grim, torture-filled gore-fests of late, Hatchet’s mayhem is so giddily over-the-top that you end up applauding the low-budget aplomb of it all.
