RobinAug 27, 2019nooooo don’t kill urself ur so sexy when u feel so unloved by ur mother that u stage elaborate fake suicides as desperate cries for help that she perpetually ignores aha
mia lee vicinoCmon I can't be the only one who did a little "wow" when Harold first spoke and his voice was way deeper than I thought it'd be

i can't believe wes anderson was able to direct this at the ripe young age of 2
mememilyApr 28, 2020The millisecond shot of the numbers on Maude’s arm is one of the greatest shots of all time.
HersheyMaude embraced life then embraced death. Harold embraced death then embraced life.

87/100 I think the final moments hit as hard as they do because Harold was never embracing reality before Maude's death. The loss of life freed constraints and personal imprisonments surrounding him, but each gesture, conversation, look, movement in the hospital is…

BriannaSep 15, 2020I have trouble articulating how much this movie means to me, but I’ll give it a shot... Why is a movie about a suicidal 20 year old falling in love with an eccentric old lady my favorite movie of all time? It’s because I think it captures both my fears and my dreams, and…

"A lot of people enjoy being dead, but they're not really dead, they're js backing away from life." Beautiful execution to my favourite themes of all time. I need a 2-hour talk session with Maude so bad ugh. Incredible soundtrack, lovely and heartwarming writing. 4/5
One of the weirdest movies ever. But for some reason I can watch it over and over.
Incredibly dark comedy with two standout performances and well-crafted, interesting characters. The story has a wholesomeness to it despite the dark subject matter/ references at times. I wasn’t particularly a fan of what happens before the end, but how it does end I was a fan of

Harold falling in love with Maude kinda took me out of it, but despite that, I loved both of their characters, and the dark humor is surprising for the time and quite hilarious. The ending is a gut punch but also beautiful, so I'm glad I took the chance on this one.
the age gap is weird. even as they are married, they are more like friends in my eyes. How apathetic can the mom be??? like your son has "killed" himself over 15 times and you just go, oh, I suppose you find this funny Harold, oh stop being silly. Like, huh??

The lost unconventional romance movie of all-time. Quirky, dark-dry humor, this one isn’t for everyone, but most should be able to appreciate the characters. Painfully 70s in a good way.
I'm not quite sure how to take this movie. The humor in it is fantastic and grave but Harold and Maude's relationship made it so I couldn't watch the last 15 minutes of the movie.

Metacritic
Harold is death, Maude life, and they manage to make the two seem so similar that life's hardly worth the extra bother. The visual style makes everyone look fresh from the Wax Museum, and all the movie lacks is a lot of day-old gardenias and lilies and roses in the lobby, filling the place with a cloying sweet smell.
As performers, they both are so aggressive, so creepy and off‐putting, that Harold and Maude are obviously made for each other, a point the movie itself refuses to recognize with a twist ending that betrays, I think, its life‐affirming pre tensions.
