Atom User Reviews for Godzilla Minus One
So I'm a big Godzilla fan, and I've seen all of them all the way back to the original. I've got to say out of every one of them, this has hit my #1. The plot/story is very simple and easy to follow. Our main character that we follow has fantastic character development along with great supporting characters. The visual effects are superb, especially for a movie with only a $15 million budget. It is a great step Toho did to show you can create a 5/5 movie without the budget of a small nation, which is a gut punch to the bloated Hollywood. Personally, I think if you aren't a Godzilla fan, this would be the film to make you one! I think everyone should be able to relate in some fashion to at least one character in this film, which is probably why the reviews prior to me watching it was so high. Thank you, Toho, for going back to the original movin concept and making this movie happen!
A tremendous take on Zilla. The family storyline is so admirable and rich, it leaves you wanting those human connections. It's a treacherous battle of emotional impacts that stings the inner spirit of the lead character. Female chara had such a warm bliss, crucial to the emotional human story. The city shots and the destruction was insanity. Viewed in IMAX, roars and instruments hit the core!!!
Loved it. Best Godzilla I’ve seen in a long time—subtitles and all!!! A lot of emotional material set against our favorite kaiju backdrop.
Great movie. Totally worth seeing on the big screen.
Godzilla is terrifying in this! Good action Awesome movie.
Simply profound elegant
This was an awesome movie. It takes the technology of a post-WWII setting and runs with it well.
If you're a fan of the original kaiju, you'll be a fan of this one. I highly recommend it it's a unique experience in a different story telling.
It looks like the best one I’ve seen yet
Best Godzilla movie ever
One of the best Godzilla films to date. Loved this movie and definitely seeing it again!
This might be the best Godzilla movie yet! This is a must see. I absolutely loved this movie
Great movie, great story. By far the best Godzilla movie I've seen. Great for the whole family.
Back to the roots, a well-balanced movie
Absolutely fantastic. The story was engaging and the action was excellent. Definitely going to see it again.
Godzilla is a force not to be messed with. This movie had great visual and sound effects. The characters in the film are great and you can sympathize with them. While watching it I felt happy seeing Godzilla scary in this one. It's eyes bulge out when he does his Atomic Breath but also didn't want it to hurt the humans because I genuinely cared for them. This movie is amazing.
Beautiful story of confronting your own fears and regrets. The movie has some intense moments and even though it’s long it never made you want to not watch the screen. Would recommend 5/5
Best Godzilla movie in a while.
I have been a fan all my life!! I have researched every film, watched them all, and collect godzilla merchandise...I didn't know what to expect from this film; but I was not prepared for the intense story and emotional experience this movie brought!! Such a powerful story with historic roots that words cannot describe it!! a must see film of 2023!!!!
This was a great movie. The Godzilla action scenes were great, and the human story was fantastic.
Perfect combination of WWII and Godzilla. Really good movie.
one of the best Godzilla movies I've ever seen

HANDS DOWN THE BEST GODZILLA FILM EVER!.... EVER!!!
THE GREATEST FILM OF ALL TIME
Jawn in Japanese
Fantastic!!!!!!!
Really emotional movie, packed with action, def a must watchz
One of the best Godzilla films to ever be produced, and I've seen all them.
We finally get to see a horrifying Godzilla. It was very epic to see what Godzilla can do as a monster. Only wished they had more scene with Godzilla. Overall, it was a fun movie to watch
Definitely a cinematic journey 👍
Glorious! A well done addition to Godzilla. The story is compelling, great acting and the CGI is A+ superb. Every character has a purpose and they are all trying to survive. You get to see small glimpses of Godzilla; he looks threatening in the water but clunky on land. When you finely see him, WOW.
Really good! Even with subtitles!
best Godzilla movie. arguably the best one. go watch it
What an amazing film!
Eminem said it best
Great movie, great story. Well worth seeing
An excellent retelling of the original film. While keeping to the series roots, spun in a uniquely beautiful way. A must watch for new fans, and great way to honor the old ones. Definitely the best modern Godzilla film.
It is an incredible, exciting, emotional treat. A great piece of cinema. I did not expect the level of emotion, but it's well with your time.
BASED
Pretty good film
I personally don't like to read subtitles during movies, but I actually enjoyed this from beginning to end . Great story telling.
Excellent cinema! This movie flowed as the great epic movies. Highly recommended!
Great movie lots of emotion and a genuinely terrifying Godzilla
This had it all !!
Literally the best Godzilla movie ever. Had me tearing up! I doubt any American made Godzilla movie could ever live up to this epic movie
Excellent movie!
It good
The action starts off right away from the very first scene. I would probably put this in the top three or four Godzilla movies that have ever been produced. It is definitely worth the cinematic experience to see it in the movies!
It was exciting action-packed had a touching moment but a happy ending I recommended highly
Metacritic
Come for the skyline-destroying radioactive dino, stay for the delicately etched portrait of recovery and self-forgiveness. Or vice versa. Just don’t miss the chance to remind yourself why the world fell for Godzilla in the first place.

The enduring quality of the 1953 original is rooted in its engagement with the twin atomic disasters of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. This prequel, similarly, yokes American imperialism, postwar malaise, survivor guilt and weaponised atomic power to produce the best action film of the year.
It’s precision-tooled in terms of structure, almost to the point of airlessness, but you’d be hard-pressed to knock back the final 45-minute showdown as anything less than an impressive feat by a filmmaker orchestrating and charting the fine processes of an epic battle.
