Atom User Reviews for Ghostbusters (1984)
Just as good as I remember watching it when I was a kid.
Still Hilarious after All these years!! tremendous cast & really fun effects !! I laughed SO much & can’t wait for the new one !!
It was great to have a chance to see this with my son. I saw the original in the theatre when I was just a bit younger than he is now. My only complaint is that the image is obviously stretched or modified to accommodate the screen dimensions, or something similar was done. It seems that some scenes lose a bit of the subject matter in the frame. The digital experience also makes for some graininess in the background that you obviously wouldn't see in a projected film reel. Some of the SFX limitations are more noticeable too, such as when the building's gargoyle is partly transparent over the street. Still, I'll take what I can get when it comes to these movies. The movie still holds up well and I still chuckle at all of the lines. The intro with Reitmans young and old was great too. It's great that Afterlife will be brought to us by someone who holds a very special reverence for the original film.
Metacritic
Ghostbusters is one of those rare movies where the original, fragile comic vision has survived a multimillion-dollar production.

However good an idea it may have been to unleash Mr. Murray in an ''Exorcist''-like setting, this film hasn't gotten very far past the idea stage. Its jokes, characters and story line are as wispy as the ghosts themselves, and a good deal less substantial.
