Atom User Reviews for Ghost in the Shell
Starting 15mins of movie is good then some action sences and the concept of the movie is really nice
the movie was taken far from the originality and added bits and pieces of the movie here and there for some cliche effect. very disappointed.
Visually stunning. That's about it. Lacking substance, especially if you've seen the original 1995 movie - many of the scenes are recreated exactly.
too long that got lost and forget the theme
Seemed like a lot was cut from the movie. It's a shame. Enjoyed it for the most part though. One of the most visually impressive movies I've ever seen
Amazing and cerebral! Spend the exyra few bucks to see it in True 3D or IMAX!
All shell, no 'ghost'
This movie was OK. Very good in parts, slow in others. as you would expect from the trailer, it is a cyberpunk romp. Worth seeing, better at matinee prices unless you are REALLY into Ghost in the Shell.
Needed more action
Slow pace of boring!
terrible
Blows hard
If you're not familiar with the anime you'll definitely love this, but if you are a huge fan of the anime you'll probably be a little disappointed like I was. They could've made this 100x better. Still not a bad movie.
Except scarlett everything was bad
Pretty solid movie imho
Worst movie ever
The actiom was good, but it did not totally make sense.
Loved it. Definitely different from the source material, but a stunning visual display
a bore
The source material is what inspired the Matrix so pretty good stuff. Rather faithful adaptation.
I found it to be a very brisk movie. At no point was I tempted to look at my phone to check the time. Everything for the most part was well done outside some dodgy CG.
Better than I thought it'd be!
A visually stunning film that is lacking greatly in all the posthuman and identity questions the original asked.
Loved every moment....visuals were on point too!
a good sign anime adaptations in the future. We now know it can be done
no comparison to original at all.
5/10 would not torrent
Images from the anime, yet has enough change to be its own story. Could be a prelude
Go see it in the Dolby theatre. It's so worth it!! 50% of movie 🎥, +/-, is dialogue. [speaking, I think 🤔, 🇯🇵 Japanese.
must watch movie well made and first time that is a great film from comic to screen
This was visually stunning to say the least, but as someone who has been a fan of the series before it was cool there was a lot missing. This movie compared to the original is a lackluster version. It's due to it's kid-friendly rating. The original was graphic and raw, not for children. A step in the right direction, but far from its mark. I was disappointed with this one.
Been a fan of the Ghost in the Shell franchise for over two decades and was sorely disappointed by the film. They dumbed the story down way too much and prioritized style over substance. There were a few bits of the original film sprinkled throughout, but the changes to the plot and theme kept the film from being anything more than mediocre.
If you enjoy 3D then this is a must see. Amazing use of depth and graphics. Change to the original story but maintained major scenes from the movie.
So true to the original series all the little details plus scarlett Johansson. I mean how can you go wrong? This movie is a must see!
Great scenery and use of modern day technology. Really bad story line and not engaging at all.
♥
Most people have given this a bad review but I think it is an interesting movie worth seeing. It depends on what you like. I've never seen the original Ghost in the Shell
Greatest movie ever Scarlet was beautiful and beast
More dialogue then needed. Told not shown. besides that flawless
Coming from a Ghost in the Shell fan, this is a good movie! I wanted to watch because of the main actor and it was one of my favorite anime adapted into a live action movie It story line is slow but it was awesome afterward! A lot of people didn't like how it was whitewashed but it's actually not cause in the anime most of the characters are foreign characters. Love it and could watch it again! Makes me wanna rewatch the anime and the anime movies
The movie was good but honestly had the same plot as robo cop and was slow at times. I would still say it's a good movie but not for the big screen. I also do not recommend seeing it in 3-D considering it barely uses it at all.
If a little more attention was given to the script then this movie would have been way better than it is right now.
All in all, it is a solid action flick. I can't wait for the sequel!
They did a really good job sticking to the anime. Can't wait to see it again!
i liked everything but his death
Ghost in the Shell is a visual masterpiece and very faithful to it's source material, although the plot points get clunky
this is a terrible representation of Ghost in the Shell by Masamune Shirow. incredibly inaccurate.
had a pack of idiots protesting this film as i walked in. supposed hollywood white wash. forget all of that, it is an amazing film that sticked to its roots.
Visually stunning, but lacked story and character development.
top kek mate
Metacritic
Ghost in the Shell looks great, sounds great and has a gaping hole at its center — where its emotional core should be.
It is this rage for authenticity, more than the leading lady, that transforms Ghost in the Shell into an American product. Here’s an irony: if anything preserves the unnerving quiddity and strangeness of the Japanese movie, it is Johansson.
This version may not break new ground, but it revisits familiar territory with a vibrant sense of style and welcome restraint. It exemplifies the kind of respectable and utterly unnecessary remake that now defines the Hollywood business model.
