the only thing more disturbing than the fact that this happened in the first place is that eleven years have passed and absolutely nothing has changed
liam fJul 27, 2013Ryan Coogler, a film school graduate and native of the Bay area, has crafted one of the most powerful and important debut films I've ever experienced. It chronicles the last day in the life of Oscar Grant, a young man who was quick to anger, capable of massive amounts of…
SimoneMay 15, 2020this film is painful, i don’t think a film has ever hurt me so much. rip oscar grant

This is one of the very, very, VERY few occasions where you can use the term "mise-en-scène" without coming off as pretentious. Because let me tell you, the mise-en-scène here (*strokes goatee*) is TREMENDOUS. In all seriousness, I haven’t experienced something this…
Georgia ColeyJun 23, 2020my heart is broken for all the lives so cruelly cut short. black lives matter. always.
anjySep 2, 2013Recommendable on the basis of the strong performances, and not much else. My wife put it very well. "If this is really how this guy's last day went down," she said as we walked out of the theater, "then he had the last day-iest last day of all time." The foreshadowing in…

Michael B. Jordan gives the best male performance I've seen all year. Actually best performance all year period. The whole supporting cast was also outstanding. I felt similar emotions after watching this that I had after my watch of Dear Zachary. Both sadness and anger.…
EvanFeb 20, 2019i'm genuinely SO sad and SO angry right now !!!!! i don't even know what to say other than thank you ryan coogler for making this incredibly important and powerful film, i won't be forgetting it any time soon
˗ˏˋ suspirliam ˊˎ˗Mar 27, 2025“Fruitvale Station” leaves you completely empty inside. It tackles its subject, police brutality, with a tenderness and emotional depth that you can’t look away! You follow the struggle Oscar, an ordinary guy who is a great father and trying to become someone his girlfriend…

Of course, I appreciate the message and the memory behind the heartbreaking story, but as a film, it was very meh. That’s the problem with these kinds of movies, the entire film revolves around just two or three minutes at best, the real skill lies in how the director fills the-
The colours of the film/ the way it was shot made it look very real. The shots of his everyday life like him driving or just being at the grocery store made it feel like you were there with Oscar experiencing everything through his lens. The movie itself shed light on a heavy top

8/10 this movie really puts things into perspective. I know about racial profiling and police brutality, but it made me truly understand how privileged I am. There are many other people in the world who have it way worse than me. I think more people should watch this film
oh em gee this movie is so beautiful. it is so sad and painful to watch but it was done so well in memory for oscar and to share the story. idt ive ever cried so hard at a movie. 9/10

Oscar Julius Grant died at approximately 9:15 AM on January 1st, 2009. He was 22 years old.
Heartbreakingly beautiful. Words can’t describe it, this made me angry. Oscar was a beautiful soul, this movie showed his last day. He deserved so much better. His story is still an ongoing issue, it brings awareness to police brutality. ACAB. His mom got the case reopened, good!
A quite gripping drama that is indeed tragic. Ryan Coogler's debut film and a rather strong one at that. Raw real and authentic. While I can see the merit this film has it would be tough to revisit. Not because it's lack of quality but how real it feels and how relevant it is.

Fruitvale Station isn't really a surprising film, except insofar as it's rare to see such a warmly emotional big-screen portrait of black family life.
The movie is modest in its ambition and powerful in its reverberations.
